After playing on the frozen river, checking out the Snow Expo, and enjoying the smaller ice festival at Zhaolin Park, it&#8217;s time to go big on the second day. Speaking of big, the day starts out with a visit to some very big kitties.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\">Siberian Tiger Park<\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_12988\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter post-item__attachment\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/01\/Harbin.jpg\" aria-label=\"Harbin\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12988\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12988\"  alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"429\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/01\/Harbin.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/01\/Harbin.jpg 600w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/01\/Harbin-350x250.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-12988\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Here kitty, kitty, kitty.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Catch a cab and head out of town a bit to reach the <strong>Siberian Tiger Park<\/strong> (\u4e1c\u5317\u864e\u6797\u56ed &#8211; d\u014dng b\u011bi h\u01d4 l\u00edn yu\u00e1n). This is much more than a zoo. In fact, it&#8217;s the largest natural park for wild Siberian tigers in the world. In addition to the hundreds of tigers, the park is also home to lions, pumas, leopards, and more. There&#8217;s even a liger! It&#8217;s pretty much my favorite animal. Visitors take a bus around the area where the tigers roam free, and can also walk along an elevated pathway in another section. Previously, you could buy slabs of meat, live chickens or ducks, and even a full cattle to feed to the tigers, but it seems as if that aspect has been shut down. Probably for the better&#8230; Head back to town to get some lunch, warm up a bit, and put on many layers of clothes.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\">Ice and Snow World<\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_12986\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter post-item__attachment\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/01\/Harbin-2013-084.jpg\" aria-label=\"Harbin 2013 084\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12986\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12986\"  alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/01\/Harbin-2013-084.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/01\/Harbin-2013-084.jpg 600w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/01\/Harbin-2013-084-350x263.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-12986\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ice castles full of lazers!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>After dark, head out to the<strong> Ice and Snow World<\/strong> (\u51b0\u96ea\u5927\u4e16\u754c &#8211; b\u012bng xu\u011b d\u00e0 sh\u00ec ji\u00e8). This park is the main event of the annual <strong>International\u00a0Ice and Snow Festival<\/strong> (\u56fd\u9645\u51b0\u96ea\u8282 &#8211; gu\u00f3 j\u00ec b\u012bng xu\u011b ji\u00e9).\u00a0This is one of the Top 5 largest festivals of its kind on Earth, and it attracts thousands of tourists who brave the cold to take in the sights.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_12991\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter post-item__attachment\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/01\/Harbin3-1.jpg\" aria-label=\"Harbin3 1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12991\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12991\"  alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"429\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/01\/Harbin3-1.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/01\/Harbin3-1.jpg 600w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/01\/Harbin3-1-350x250.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-12991\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Freezing cold fun!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Whereas the Snow Expo is best visited during the day, you want to make sure to come here at night. Massive structures made from ice become illuminated in a sea of LED lights. If admiring the lazer-ice-castles isn\u2019t exciting enough for you, there are plenty of other activities to choose from \u2013 horse-drawn carriage rides, a dangerously fast ice-sled, a carny-style thrill ride, and much more.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_12989\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter post-item__attachment\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/01\/Harbin1.jpg\" aria-label=\"Harbin1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12989\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12989\"  alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"429\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/01\/Harbin1.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/01\/Harbin1.jpg 600w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/01\/Harbin1-350x250.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-12989\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Harbin beer is ubiquitous here.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Not surprisingly, <strong>Harbin beer<\/strong> (\u54c8\u5c14\u6ee8\u5564\u9152 &#8211; h\u0101 \u011br b\u012bn p\u00ed ji\u01d4) is a big sponsor of the festival. A huge ice sculpture of a beer bottle is a central fixture in the park, little tents serve it (ice cold, of course), and there&#8217;s even an ice bar where you can get a free &#8211; albeit disappointingly small &#8211; glass of it. While I&#8217;m of the opinion that all <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/chinese-beer\/\">Chinese beer<\/a> sucks, Harbin is one of the more tolerable brands.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_12985\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter post-item__attachment\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/01\/Harbin-037.jpg\" aria-label=\"Harbin 037\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12985\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12985\"  alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/01\/Harbin-037.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/01\/Harbin-037.jpg 600w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/01\/Harbin-037-350x263.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-12985\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A winter wonderland.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The price of admission is a bit steep (330 RMB for adults and 200 for children), but it&#8217;s well worth it. Make sure you&#8217;re dressed appropriately and take a few breaks in the tents to warm up, and you&#8217;ll be able to spend 2-3 hours here taking it all in. If you&#8217;re not on the last bus back to town, be prepared to haggle with cab drivers who are well aware that you&#8217;re freezing cold and have no other options.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\">Central Avenue<\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_12993\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter post-item__attachment\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/01\/Harbin5-1.jpg\" aria-label=\"Harbin5 1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12993\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12993\"  alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"429\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/01\/Harbin5-1.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/01\/Harbin5-1.jpg 600w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/01\/Harbin5-1-350x250.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-12993\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Central Ave.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Back in town, take a stroll along the <strong>Central Avenue<\/strong> (\u4e2d\u592e\u5927\u8857 &#8211; zh\u014dng y\u0101ng d\u00e0 ji\u0113). Along this pedestrian-only street, you&#8217;ll see plenty of beautiful Russian architecture. During the festival, you&#8217;ll also see a handful of ice and snow sculptures.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_12990\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter post-item__attachment\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/01\/Harbin2-1.jpg\" aria-label=\"Harbin2 1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12990\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12990\"  alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"429\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/01\/Harbin2-1.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/01\/Harbin2-1.jpg 600w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/01\/Harbin2-1-350x250.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-12990\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A favorite snack.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>There&#8217;s a little night market here, where you can try one of Harbin&#8217;s favorite snacks &#8211; <strong>candied hawthorns<\/strong> (\u51b0\u7cd6\u846b\u82a6 &#8211; b\u012bng t\u00e1ng h\u00fa lu). There are other varieties of candied fruits, such as strawberries, grapes, and cherries. Another winter favorite is roasted <strong>chestnuts<\/strong> (\u6817\u5b50 &#8211; l\u00ec z\u01d0) &#8211; perfect for the bitter cold weather.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\">Nightlife<\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_12992\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter post-item__attachment\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/01\/Harbin4.jpg\" aria-label=\"Harbin4\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12992\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12992\"  alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"429\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/01\/Harbin4.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/01\/Harbin4.jpg 600w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/01\/Harbin4-350x250.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-12992\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Goofin&#8217; around.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>While Harbin doesn&#8217;t hold a candle to cities like Beijing and Shanghai when it comes to the <strong>nightlife<\/strong> (\u591c\u751f\u6d3b &#8211; y\u00e8 sh\u0113ng hu\u00f3), that doesn&#8217;t mean you have to stay in your hotel room. Having visited the city three times, I found that there&#8217;s usually only one bar that&#8217;s open for business in the downtown area. On our last visit, we had a great time in one, trying on their silly hats and costumes. As with most Chinese cities, you&#8217;ll find plenty of gaudy nightclubs and KTV (karaoke) joints here as well.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_12987\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter post-item__attachment\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/01\/Harbin-2013-183-1.jpg\" aria-label=\"Harbin 2013 183 1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12987\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12987\"  alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/01\/Harbin-2013-183-1.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/01\/Harbin-2013-183-1.jpg 600w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/01\/Harbin-2013-183-1-350x263.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-12987\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sausage + beer.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Whatever you do, make sure you try the local specialty &#8211; <strong>sausage<\/strong> (\u9999\u80a0 &#8211; xi\u0101ng ch\u00e1ng). Harbin is famous for its meat-sticks, and they&#8217;re damn good, especially when paired with a cold brew.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>That does it for a jam-packed 48 hours in Harbin. While this itinerary is obviously meant to be done in the winter months while the Ice and Snow Festival is going on, that doesn&#8217;t mean you shouldn&#8217;t visit at other times of the year. In fact, summer is supposedly a great time in Harbin. There&#8217;s a beer festival, plenty of fun on the river, and you don&#8217;t need five layers of clothes just to step outside!<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\">Have you ever been to Harbin?
