Hopefully you had a nice flight and made it to your destination on time. Follow the same steps you took for your original flight &#8211; check the timetable, find your gate, and wait for the boarding announcement. If your flight arrived late &#8211; which tends to happen very often in China &#8211; you might have to go to the gate and tell them:<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\">\u6211\u9519\u8fc7\u4e86\u8f6c\u673a\u822a\u73ed<br \/>\nw\u01d2 cu\u00f2 gu\u00f2 le zhu\u01cen j\u012b h\u00e1ng b\u0101n<br \/>\nI&#8217;ve missed my connecting flight.<\/h3>\n<p>Let&#8217;s hope they put you on another flight sooner than later. You might want to go ahead and buy a <strong>snack<\/strong> (\u5c0f\u5403 &#8211; xi\u01ceo ch\u012b) and a <strong>magazine<\/strong> (\u6742\u5fd7 &#8211; z\u00e1 zh\u00ec) while you wait.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\">Baggage Claim<\/h2>\n<p>Those who are fortunate enough to not have to deal with connecting flights can go ahead and follow the signs to <strong>baggage claim<\/strong> (<span class=\"phrase-data ng-binding ng-scope\">\u884c\u674e\u8ba4\u9886 &#8211;\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"phrase-data ng-binding ng-scope\">x\u00edng li r\u00e8n l\u01d0ng). Find the carousel for your flight and grab your bag off the <strong>conveyor belt<\/strong> (\u4f20\u9001\u5e26 &#8211; chu\u00e1n s\u00f2ng d\u00e0i). If your bags are heavy, never fear &#8211; most airports in China have free <strong>baggage carts<\/strong> (\u884c\u674e\u8f66 &#8211; x\u00edng l\u01d0 ch\u0113). At some airports you&#8217;ll even find <strong>porters<\/strong> (\u884c\u674e\u5458 &#8211; x\u00edng l\u01d0 yu\u00e1n) who will help carry your bags for a small fee. Of course, there&#8217;s always the slight chance that your baggage could have been damaged or lost. Hopefully you don&#8217;t have to use these phrases, but you might want to have them ready just in case:<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\">\u6211\u7684\u884c\u674e\u88ab\u635f\u574f\u4e86<br \/>\nw\u01d2 de x\u00edng l\u01d0 b\u00e8i s\u01d4n hu\u00e0i le<br \/>\nMy luggage was damaged.<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\">\u6211\u7684\u884c\u674e\u4e22\u4e86<br \/>\nw\u01d2 de x\u00edng l\u01d0 di\u016b le<br \/>\nMy luggage was lost.<\/h3>\n<p>I just hope you don&#8217;t have as bad of an experience as I did flying from Kuala Lumpur to Shanghai last year. After a 5-hour delay where we had to sleep on two chairs pushed together, we finally arrived in Shanghai to find our bags soaking wet and reeking of dead fish!<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\">Ground Transport<\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_13292\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter post-item__attachment\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/05\/Picture-485.jpg\" aria-label=\"Picture 485\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13292\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13292\"  alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/05\/Picture-485.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/05\/Picture-485.jpg 600w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/05\/Picture-485-350x263.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-13292\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">On the Airport Express in Beijing.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>After that long trip, you just want to get to your hotel, take a shower, and relax. Not so fast! You still have to navigate the options for ground transport. In most Chinese airports, <strong>black cab<\/strong>\u00a0(\u9ed1\u8f66 &#8211; h\u0113i ch\u0113) drivers lurk around arrival halls looking for customers. Simply brush them off with a &#8220;<strong>Don&#8217;t need, thanks<\/strong>&#8221; (\u4e0d\u7528, \u8c22\u8c22 &#8211; b\u00f9 y\u00f2ng, xi\u00e8 xi\u00e8) and keep walking. At the very least, they&#8217;ll rip you off with a fare that&#8217;s double what it should be. Instead, find the official <strong>taxi stand<\/strong> (\u51fa\u79df\u8f66\u5019\u5ba2\u5904 &#8211; ch\u016b z\u016b ch\u0113 h\u00f2u k\u00e8 ch\u00f9). Don&#8217;t assume that a taxi driver will know your accommodation by name. It&#8217;s best to have the address so you can give it to them and say:<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\">\u8bf7\u5e26\u6211\u53bb\u8fd9\u4e2a\u5730\u5740<br \/>\nq\u01d0ng d\u00e0i w\u01d2 q\u00f9 zh\u00e8 ge d\u00ec zh\u01d0<br \/>\nPlease take me to this address.<\/h3>\n<p>Many cities in China also have an <strong>airport shuttle bus<\/strong> (\u673a\u573a\u6446\u6e21\u8f66 &#8211; j\u012b ch\u01ceng b\u01cei d\u00f9 ch\u0113) which will bring you to a central location downtown. If you&#8217;re looking to save a bit of money, this is a good option. In the bigger cities, you can always just hop on the\u00a0<strong>subway<\/strong> (\u5730\u94c1 &#8211; d\u00ec ti\u011b). For example, in Beijing you can take the <strong>airport express<\/strong> (\u673a\u573a\u5feb\u8f68 &#8211; j\u012b ch\u01ceng ku\u00e0i gu\u01d0) straight to Sanyuanqiao or Dongzhimen.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Once you&#8217;ve made it to your <strong>hotel<\/strong> (\u9152\u5e97 &#8211; ji\u01d4 di\u00e0n), you can breathe a sigh of relief &#8211; you successfully flew in Chinese! From booking your flight all the way to catching that cab, you had to use new words and communicate your needs and wants in Chinese. A whole new adventure is just beginning, as you get ready to check-in to your hotel.
