You can hike to the top of the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/the-western-hills-of-kunming\/\">Western Hills<\/a>, admire the beautiful <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/kunming-day-trips-world-horti-expo-gardens\/\">World Expo Gardens<\/a>, and visit plenty of <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/temple-hopping-in-kunming\/\">incredible temples<\/a>. Our final day trip destination is the <strong>Grand View Park<\/strong> (\u5927\u89c2\u516c\u56ed &#8211; d\u00e0 gu\u0101n g\u014dng yu\u00e1n) &#8211; a great place to spend a relaxing afternoon.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_13393\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter post-item__attachment\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13393\" class=\"wp-image-13393 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/06\/DSC_0137.jpg\" alt=\"Kunming Day Trips - Grand View Park\" width=\"600\" height=\"402\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/06\/DSC_0137.jpg 600w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/06\/DSC_0137-350x235.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-13393\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Grand View Tower and the lake.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>This huge park is located just 6 km southwest of the city center and is easily reachable by public bus or taxi. Tickets cost just 20 RMB and the park is open from 8:30-6 every day. It&#8217;s on the shores of <strong>Dianchi Lake<\/strong> (\u6ec7\u6c60 &#8211; di\u0101n ch\u00ed), facing the Western Hills.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_13397\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter post-item__attachment\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13397\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13397\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/06\/Grand-View2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"429\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/06\/Grand-View2.jpg 600w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/06\/Grand-View2-350x250.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-13397\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Grand View Tower<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The focal point of the park is the <strong>Grand View Tower<\/strong> (\u5927\u89c2\u5854 &#8211; d\u00e0 gu\u0101n t\u01ce), a 3-story pavilion that lives up to its name. Climb to the top and you really will get a grand view of the lake and mountains. It was built way back in 1690 and was destroyed and rebuilt several times over the centuries. The pavilion has remained in tact since 1883. In addition to the amazing view, the tower also houses a cultural treasure in Yunnan &#8211; a couplet of 180 characters written by the Qing Dynasty-era poet <strong>Sun Ranweng<\/strong> (\u5b59\u9aef\u7fc1). It&#8217;s said to be the longest antithetical couplet in the world. The first part describes the park and its natural beauty which you see when looking out from the tower. Part two details the long history of the province, and it ends with a contemplation of the Buddhist concept of Nirvana.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_13395\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter post-item__attachment\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13395\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13395\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/06\/Grand-View.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"429\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/06\/Grand-View.jpg 600w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/06\/Grand-View-350x250.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-13395\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Flowers everywhere!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Grand View Park is incredibly colorful, as it&#8217;s decorated a few times a year in seasonal flowers. The whole park is very well-maintained, with several gardens, paths, sculptures, and ponds. It really is a green oasis inside the ever-developing concrete jungle that surrounds.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_13398\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter post-item__attachment\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13398\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13398\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/06\/Grand-View3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"429\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/06\/Grand-View3.jpg 600w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/06\/Grand-View3-350x250.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-13398\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Flowers and Chinglish.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A lot of hard work goes into setting up and maintaining this lovely park, and there are a few funny <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/chinglish-pictures\/\">Chinglish<\/a> signs reminding you not to trample it. On big holidays such as <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/get-ready-for-national-day\/\">National Day<\/a>, over 100,000 people visit throughout the day! Regardless of when you visit, you&#8217;ll always find groups of people doing <em>tai chi<\/em>, singing, having band practice, or just playing some cards or chess.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_13392\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter post-item__attachment\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13392\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13392\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/06\/DSC_0135.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"402\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/06\/DSC_0135.jpg 600w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/06\/DSC_0135-350x235.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-13392\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Boat rides, ferris wheels, and roller coasters!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>If you need a bit more excitement than that, you can rent little paddle boats to cruise around this section of the lake. There are also various options for boat cruises on the lake. You can even find a small amusement park here, which features a massive 90-meter <strong>Ferris wheel<\/strong> (\u6469\u5929\u8f6e &#8211; m\u00f3 ti\u0101n l\u00fan). You&#8217;ll also find some smaller carnival rides and games here, as well as plenty of snack vendors. After <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/spring-festival-in-a-chinese-village\/\">celebrating Spring Festival in our friend&#8217;s village<\/a>, this was the perfect way to wind down the holiday.
