Millions upon millions of people are traveling to enjoy this <strong>Golden Week<\/strong> (\u9ec4\u91d1\u5468 &#8211; hu\u00e1ng j\u012bn zh\u014du). This year it&#8217;s extra special, as both <strong>National Day<\/strong> (\u56fd\u5e86\u8282 &#8211; gu\u00f3 q\u00ecng ji\u00e9) and <strong>Mid-Autumn Festival<\/strong> (\u4e2d\u79cb\u7bc0 &#8211; zh\u014dng qi\u016b ji\u00e9) are happening in the same week. This year marks the 68th anniversary of the founding of the modern day People&#8217;s Republic of China by <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/chairman-mao-early-years-of-the-prc\/\">Mao Zedong<\/a> in 1949. Believe it or not, you can actually watch this historic occasion on YouTube:<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/Nvmf46_S7Po\">https:\/\/youtu.be\/Nvmf46_S7Po<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In that famous address given in <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/a-guide-to-tiananmen-square\/\">Tiananmen Square<\/a>, it&#8217;s said that Mao proclaimed:<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\">\u4e2d\u56fd\u4eba\u6c11\u7ad9\u8d77\u6765\u4e86<br \/>\nzh\u014dng gu\u00f3 r\u00e9n m\u00edn zh\u00e0n q\u01d0 l\u00e1i le<br \/>\nThe Chinese people have stood up.<\/h3>\n<p>It was a great slogan for the Communist Party as they sought to unify the country. They had stood up to the Japanese invaders, to the Kuomintang, and to meddling westerners. There&#8217;s just one little problem with that slogan, though &#8211; apparently <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scmp.com\/article\/693526\/famous-mao-slogan-he-never-even-used\">Mao never really said it<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"What did Mao Zedong really say?\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Ra9X7V5B5oE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Whether or not he actually said that back in 1949, National Day is still celebrate with patriotic fervor each and every October 1st. Similar to Thanksgiving, this harvest festival is all about gathering with family members for a feast and to enjoy the beautiful full moon. Moon cakes come in all different flavors, shapes, and sizes.
