Every city and village I visit tell a new story. Every mountain has a new route to explore. Every food stall is a delicious feast. One of the Chinese verbs I use quite often to describe my Chinese experiences is\u719f\u6089 (sh\u00fax\u012b). It means \u201cto know well\u201d or \u201cto be familiar with something or someone\u201d. It\u2019s a useful verb that fits almost every situation, and can be used positively or negatively.<\/p>\n<p>The Chinese definition of \u719f\u6089 is:<\/p>\n<p>\u719f\u6089\u7684\u610f\u601d\u662f\u4e86\u89e3\u5f97\u6e05\u695a\uff0c\u6e05\u695a\u5730\u77e5\u9053\u3002<\/p>\n<p>Sh\u00fax\u012b de y\u00ecsi sh\u00ec li\u01ceoji\u011b de q\u012bngch\u01d4, q\u012bngch\u01d4 di zh\u012bd\u00e0o.<\/p>\n<p>The meaning of \u719f\u6089 is \u201cto understand clearly\u201d, or \u201cto clearly know\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>There are several ways to use \u719f\u6089 in a sentence:<\/p>\n<p>1) \u719f\u6089can be used as a verb in a sentence composed of subject, verb and object. The sentence, which can be positive or negative, indicates that the subject understands clearly, or knows the object well. The pattern literally translated to: \u5bf9 (with) something or someone, the subject is (or is not) \u719f\u6089 (familiar).
