{"id":144,"date":"2009-09-27T10:16:45","date_gmt":"2009-09-27T14:16:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/?p=144"},"modified":"2009-09-27T10:16:45","modified_gmt":"2009-09-27T14:16:45","slug":"another-day-another-border","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/another-day-another-border\/","title":{"rendered":"Another Day, Another Border"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday was another day in Hong Kong.\u00a0 I met up with a classmate whom I hadn&#8217;t seen for years, browsed the English book selection, and then made my decision about how I would get back to Shenzhen that night.\u00a0 The opportunity to <strong>\u5750\u8239<\/strong> (ride a boat) won out over the other choices, and I made my way to the ferry terminal in <strong>\u4e2d\u73af<\/strong> (Central).\u00a0 The price difference between the regular class seats and those in <strong>\u5934\u7b49\u8231<\/strong> (first class) was negligible- $30HKD ($3.87 USD by today&#8217;s rates), in other words, <strong>\u5dee\u4e0d\u4e86\u591a\u5c11\u94b1<\/strong> (no major difference between the prices).\u00a0 I had the cabin to myself and even was offered a drink.\u00a0 Being in Hong Kong, I opted for <strong>\u5976\u8336<\/strong> (milk tea) and asked how much it was (my instincts of &#8216;everything costs something&#8217; had kicked in).\u00a0 To my surprise, it was <strong>\u9001\u7684<\/strong> (complimentary).\u00a0 However, I may need to conduct some <strong>\u7f8e\u767d<\/strong> (whitening &#8211; this term is usually used in cosmetics) for my <strong>\u7259\u9f7f<\/strong> (teeth) after the amount of tea I&#8217;ve been drinking since moving to near Hong Kong.\u00a0 The boat arrived in <strong>\u86c7\u53e3<\/strong> (Shekou, a port in Shenzhen), and the border control had additional security as was mentioned in a previous entry.\u00a0 I stood in line (with my valid documents) and remained <strong>\u6c89\u9ed8<\/strong> (silent) as my passport was stamped.\u00a0 All in all, a very <strong>\u987a\u5229<\/strong> (smooth) experience- until I had to get from western Shenzhen back to where I live, that is.<\/p>\n<p>\u5750\u8239 zuo4chuan2 &#8211;
