A new strain of coronavirus is believed to have originated last December in the central Chinese city of Wuhan, Hubei province.<\/p>\n

Last June, a concerned citizen published a short letter<\/a> on the website of the People\u2019s Daily, in which he urged the government to reinforce its supervision and take charge of the South China Seafood Market (\u534e\u5357\u6d77\u9c9c\u5e02\u573a <\/strong>Hu\u00e1 n\u00e1n h\u01cei xi\u0101n sh\u00ec ch\u01ceng) in Wuhan city. The market, he claimed, is stinking and dirty (\u810f\u4e71\u5dee <\/strong>z\u00e0ng lu\u00e0n ch\u00e0).<\/p>\n

Six months later, on December 31, the Wuhan Municipal Health Commission admitted<\/a> that the multiple cases of pneumonia\u00a0 (\u80ba\u708e <\/strong>f\u00e8i y\u00e1n) reported in the city lately are associated with the South China Seafood Market. Pictures<\/a> from the market show the poor (\u6076\u52a3 <\/strong>\u00e8 li\u00e8) sanitation conditions (\u73af\u5883\u536b\u751f <\/strong>hu\u00e1n j\u00ecng w\u00e8i sh\u0113ng) in a market that sells a variety of wild animals.<\/p>\n

The market was closed down (\u5173\u95ed<\/strong> gu\u0101n b\u00ec) the next day, but the new strain of pneumonia\u00a0 (\u65b0\u578b\u80ba\u708e <\/strong>x\u012bn x\u00edng f\u00e8i y\u00e1n) as it often called in the Chinese media, had already spread (\u6269\u6563 <\/strong>ku\u00f2 s\u00e0n). With more and more been infected every day, causalities have been reported in and outside of China. Authorities recommend avoiding crowded places, wearing masks (\u53e3\u7f69 <\/strong>k\u01d2u zh\u00e0o), and thoroughly cooking diary and meat products. They even explain how to wash<\/a> your hands.<\/p>\n

The new strain of coronavirus (\u51a0\u72b6\u75c5\u6bd2 <\/strong>gu\u0101n zhu\u00e0ng b\u00ecng d\u00fa) hit China just before the Chinese New Year celebration. The virus outbreak ruins the most important cultural events of the year. The epicenter of Wuhan was quarantined (\u5c01\u57ce <\/strong>f\u0113ng ch\u00e9ng) two days before the New Year. Masks factories worked<\/a> nonstop during the holiday, trying to meet the great demand (\u9700\u6c42 <\/strong>x\u016b qi\u00fa). Major celebration events were cancelled around the country, and many places, including temples closed their doors to visitors.<\/p>\n

The virus (\u75c5\u6bd2 <\/strong>b\u00ecng d\u00fa) turned China biggest holiday into chaos. The panic motivated people to look to local initiatives, and although Wuhan coronavirus was confirmed in almost all of China\u2019s provinces, it seems that Henan people are more active. Many transportation stations, dwelling compounds, and other institutions in Henan are being disinfected on a daily basis. Moreover, body temperature is taken of anyone who wishes to enter. Although Wuhan is in lockdown, Henan locals are still afraid residents from the epicenter will arrive, so they decided to seal off<\/a> their towns, using tractors to pile dirt on the roads. In Nanyang city red banners<\/a>, encouraging people to stay at home, were displayed on the street, saying:<\/p>\n
