On January 23, a day before the Chinese New Year Eve celebrations, Wuhan was placed under lockdown. Transportation inside and outside the city was cut off. Buses, railways, flights, and ferry services had all stopped at once. The typically bustling city of 11 million population became a ghost town.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u53e3\u7f69\u6210\u4e86\u7d27\u4fcf\u54c1\u3002<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>K\u01d2u zh\u00e0o ch\u00e9ng le j\u01d0n qi\u00e0o p\u01d0n.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Masks become a product in huge demand.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.xinhuanet.com\/local\/2020-01\/22\/c_1125495538.htm\">note<\/a>, issued by the Wuhan municipal government on January 22, instructs citizens to wear protective masks (<strong>\u53e3\u7f69 <\/strong>k\u01d2u zh\u00e0o) in public. According to the note, employees of the government, enterprises, and institutions must wear a mask while on duty. Citizens are also obligated to wear a mask when going out. Restaurants, hotels, shops, theaters, libraries , and other public places must allow entrance only to people with a mask covering their mouth and nose . A prominent (<strong>\u9192\u76ee <\/strong>x\u01d0ng m\u00f9) sign should be placed at the entrance, reminding people of the new order. Thank you for your cooperation!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/m.weibo.cn\/detail\/4463834477851805\">video<\/a> of a presenter of the Hubei Economic Channel wearing mask while broadcasting became viral on the same day the note was issued. The presenter put the mask on to encourage others. <strong>\u4ece\u6211\u505a\u8d77<\/strong> (c\u00f3ng w\u01d2 zu\u00f2 q\u01d0, <em>start with me<\/em>), she wrote on her Weibo account, and elaborated the measures needed to be taken by the citizens:<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u4e0d\u79bb\u5f00\u6b66\u6c49\u5e02\uff0c\u4e0d\u53bb\u4eba\u5458\u5bc6\u96c6\u5730\uff0c\u51fa\u95e8\u6234\u53e3\u7f69\u3001\u56de\u5bb6\u52e4\u6d17\u624b\u3001\u5ba4\u5185\u5e38\u901a\u98ce\u3002<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>B\u00f9 l\u00ed k\u0101i W\u01d4h\u00e0n sh\u00ec, b\u00f9 q\u00f9 r\u00e9n yu\u00e1n m\u00ec j\u00ed de, ch\u016b m\u00e9n d\u00e0i k\u01d2u zh\u00e0o, hu\u00ed ji\u0101 q\u00edn x\u01d0 sh\u01d2u, sh\u00ec n\u00e8i ch\u00e1ng t\u014dng f\u0113ng.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Don\u2019t leave Wuhan, don\u2019t get into crowded places, wear a mask when going outside, wash your hands thoroughly when arriving home, ventilate the room often. \u00a0<\/strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-15005\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2020\/02\/\u05dc\u05db\u05d9\u05d3\u05d4.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"399\" height=\"335\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The virus had soon spread to other regions. Three more cities and two provinces have also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nst.com.my\/world\/world\/2020\/01\/559964\/two-china-provinces-three-cities-order-compulsory-anti-virus-masks\">ordered<\/a> the compulsory wearing of masks. Even without mandatory instruction, many Chinese have turned to masks. One of the heated discussions this days in China is how often should someone replace (<strong>\u66f4\u6362 <\/strong>g\u0113ng hu\u00e0n) their mask. Once a day? Every time you go out? Some don&#8217;t even settle for one mask when going out. It produces about half the world\u2019s sanitary face masks. Its maximum production capacity of masks is fairly high \u2013 about 20 million pieces per day. But for a country which has just formally announced in January that its population has crept past 1.4 billion, it\u2019s not enough.
