Plus, if you can&#8217;t make it to a body of water, you can always just roll your shirt up over your belly and rock the now famous <strong>Beijing bikini<\/strong> (\u5317\u4eac\u6bd4\u57fa\u5c3c B\u011bi j\u012bng b\u01d0 j\u012b n\u00ed)! <strong>In summer, I really like to go to parks in Beijing<\/strong> (\u590f\u5929\u7684\u65f6\u5019\uff0c\u6211\u5f88\u559c\u6b22\u53bb\u5317\u4eac\u7684\u516c\u56ed Xi\u00e0 ti\u0101n de sh\u00ed h\u00f2u, w\u01d2 h\u011bn x\u01d0 hu\u0101n q\u00f9 b\u011bi j\u012bng de g\u014dng yu\u00e1n). In fact, one of the most popular activities for locals is simply cruising up to the local park to hangout for a few hours.<\/p>\n<p>It is here \u2013 not in the giant shopping malls and modern skyscrapers \u2013 where you can really feel the pulse of Beijing. If you really want to experience local culture while in the \u2018Jing, these are some of the best places to go. Here are some ideas for park-hopping in Beijing:<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\">Temples<\/h3>\n<p>Beijing\u2019s many temples are basically all massive parks. Around the actual temple there\u2019s usually a large green space, with plenty of areas to either sit down and chill or take part in some fun outdoor activities. At night, don\u2019t be surprised to find a group of middle-aged Chinese ladies busting a move during a big group dance practice. Here are some of the best temples to take in Beijing\u2019s local culture:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"The Temple of Heaven\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/the-temple-of-heaven\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Temple of Heaven<\/strong><\/a> (\u5929\u575b ti\u0101n t\u00e1n)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Temple of the Earth<\/strong> (\u5730\u575b d\u00ec t\u00e1n)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Temple of the Sun<\/strong> (\u65e5\u575b r\u00ec t\u00e1n)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\">Chaoyang Park<\/h3>\n<p>New York has Central Park, San Francisco has Golden Gate Park, and Beijing has\u00a0<strong>Chaoyang Park<\/strong> (\u671d\u9633\u516c\u56ed ch\u0101o y\u00e1ng g\u014dng yu\u00e1n). This feat of German engineering allows a group of 10-15 people to sit around a massive bike and pedal it around the park while consuming adult beverages and rocking out to a playlist on your iPod. Get exercise and a buzz at the same time! If you\u2019re feeling lazy, though, you can always rent an electric buggy or a boat to explore the grounds. This is one of those Beijing parks that you can come back to again and again and always discover something new. In the summer months, you\u2019ll also find a <strong>water park<\/strong> (\u6c34\u4e0a\u4e50\u56ed shu\u01d0 sh\u00e0ng l\u00e8 yu\u00e1n) with a wave pool, an artificial beach, and a few water slides.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\">The Lakes<\/h3>\n<p>The center of Beijing is home to a few lakes, which make for a very pleasant place to visit in the summer. <strong>Beihai Park<\/strong> (\u5317\u6d77\u516c\u56ed b\u011bi h\u01cei g\u014dng yu\u00e1n) was once an imperial garden and is now a beautiful park that&#8217;s open to the public.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_14380\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter post-item__attachment\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2018\/05\/DSC_0485.jpg\" aria-label=\"DSC 0485\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14380\" class=\"size-full wp-image-14380\"  alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"402\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2018\/05\/DSC_0485.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2018\/05\/DSC_0485.jpg 600w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2018\/05\/DSC_0485-350x235.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-14380\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Peaceful Beihai Park<\/p><\/div>\n<p>There&#8217;s a small island in the middle of the lake that&#8217;s home to the <strong>White Dagoba<\/strong> (\u767d\u5854 b\u00e1i t\u01ce). This huge white stupa is believed to house sacred Buddhist relics and it dates back to 1651. On a clear day, it&#8217;s hard to beat the view from up here.<\/p>\n<p>While you&#8217;re here, you should definitely check out the <strong>Nine Dragon Screen<\/strong> (\u4e5d\u9f99\u58c1 ji\u01d4 l\u00f3ng b\u00ec) as well. There are only two other such screens in the entire country so it&#8217;s pretty special. Since most Chinese people live in high-rise apartments, local parks are the best place for everyone to gather, chat, play games, and just enjoy life. Whether you\u2019re living in Beijing or just visiting, local parks are a great place to practice your Chinese skills and make some friends.<\/p>\n<p>I always enjoyed hanging out in Beijing&#8217;s local parks when I lived there.
