When learning a language, any language, some basic related vocabulary is necessary. Learners need vocabulary that can help them approach the process of learning the new language. I, for example, found myself using the words \u8bcd\u5178 (c\u00ed di\u01cen dictionary<\/em>), \u6c49\u5b57 (h\u00e0n z\u00ec character<\/em>), and \u610f\u601d (y\u00ec si meaning<\/em>), on a daily basis as early as the first days of my Chinese studies.<\/p>\n

People are different, and so are the methods of learning. There are different ways to learn Chinese: you can watch TV, you can listen to the radio; you can use a mobile phone and a computer. Nowadays, there are many online learning resources. For me, however, the simplest is enough. The learning method that suits me is reading Chinese books. An\u00a0ancient\u00a0Chinese\u00a0saying says to open a book is beneficial<\/em>. It means reading has a profit. I think it\u2019s true. Any Chinese textbook I open and read, I learn new words. Improving vocabulary is one of the purposes of my reading. The more I read, the more I expand my vocabulary. When I encounter a character I haven\u2019t learn yet, or a word I am not familiar with, I check the dictionary. Looking up the dictionary is a bit slow, you need to determine the radical of the character, count the strokes, and find it in the main text. After a thorough digging for the word, I will remember its meaning.
