Last Wednesday, the Chinese Olympic delegation (\u4e2d\u56fd\u5965\u8fd0\u4ee3\u8868\u56e2<\/strong> zh\u014dng gu\u00f3 \u00e0o y\u00f9n d\u00e0i bi\u01ceo tu\u00e1n) for the Tokyo 2020 Games was gathered for a meeting in Beijing.<\/p>\n

The entrance of the General Administration of Sports of China, where the expedition meeting was held, was decorated with slogans. One of the slogans was:<\/p>\n

China is represented in this shooting competition by two women. Two out of the 431 athletes that will represent (\u4ee3\u8868<\/strong> d\u00e0i bi\u01ceo) China in the Tokyo Olympics (\u4e1c\u4eac\u5965\u8fd0\u4f1a<\/strong> d\u014dng j\u012bng \u00e0o y\u00f9n hu\u00ec), its largest ever overseas team.<\/p>\n

The total number of the Chinese delegation for the Tokyo Olympics is 431 athletes, including 298 female athletes and 133 male athletes.<\/em><\/p>\n

A new campaign<\/a> to cheer the Olympic Chinese stars (\u5965\u8fd0\u4e2d\u56fd\u661f<\/strong> \u00e0o y\u00f9n zh\u014dng gu\u00f3 x\u012bng) went viral last week. In the campaign, pictures of different athletes in action were published. Wang Zongyuan, for example, with eyes shut, hands embracing the legs, while diving into the swimming pool. Li Yingying in another picture looking upward, bending her hand before hitting the volleyball. The pictures were followed with the slogan: 00\u540e\uff0c\u51fa\u5f81\uff01<\/strong> \u00a0The phrase 00\u540e<\/strong> (00 h\u00f2u) refers to youngsters born after 2000 and before 2009. The phrase \u51fa\u5f81<\/strong> (ch\u016b zh\u0113ng) is a shortening of \u5916\u51fa\u5f81\u6218<\/strong> (w\u00e0i ch\u016b zh\u0113ng zh\u00e0n), which means go out to fight<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The youngest among China\u2019s large expedition was born in 2007. Quan Hongchan is a 14-year-old diver, who started diving at age of seven, and is already seen as a medal hope. For the young girl from the countryside, a daughter of two farmers, the Olympics will be her debut international competition. But, of course, not all of the 431 Chinese athletes were born in this millennium. The oldest athlete in the Chinese delegation is Li Zhenqiang, a 53-year-old equestrian.<\/p>\n

But, due to the worldwide pandemic, the Tokyo 2020 Games won\u2019t be the usual Olympic carnival. As one netizen wrote:<\/p>\n
