On February 28, the Chinese Ambassador (\u5927\u4f7f<\/strong> d\u00e0 sh\u01d0) to Ukraine, \u8303\u5148\u8363 (F\u00e0n Xi\u0101nr\u00f3ng), published a video<\/a>, in which he addressed the Chinese citizens living in Ukraine (\u4e4c\u514b\u5170<\/strong> w\u016b k\u00e8 l\u00e1n). Fan wished to refute the rumors that the Chinese embassy had evacuated the capital. So he addressed his fellow citizens on camera, assuring them the embassy is still here to help them, and promised:<\/p>\n

The ambassador ended the video with the common Chinese phrase of encouragement: \u540c\u80de\u4eec\u52a0\u6cb9<\/strong> (t\u00f3ng b\u0101o men ji\u0101 y\u00f3u.). The noun he used in his message \u2013 \u540c\u80de<\/strong> t\u00f3ng b\u0101o \u2013 means compatriot<\/em>, fellow citizen<\/em>, in which the ambassador refers to all the Chinese people (\u534e\u4eba<\/strong> hu\u00e1 r\u00e9n) living these days in Ukraine. According to the Chinese media there about 6,000 Chinese in Ukraine. But other reporters (such as this<\/a> and this<\/a>) suggest the updated statistics are bigger, talking about tens of thousands of Chinese living in Ukraine. Reportedly, they, too, wish to evacuate the war-torn country and flee to a safe place.<\/p>\n

\u7531\u4e8e\u4e4c\u514b\u5170\u76ee\u524d\u7684\u5c40\u52bf\u592a\u5371\u9669\uff0c\u4e2d\u56fd\u516c\u6c11\u60f3\u79bb\u5f00\u3002\u4e8b\u524d\u5f88\u591a\u534e\u4fa8\u6ca1\u64a4\u4e86\uff0c\u73b0\u5728\u88ab\u56f0\u5728\u6218\u4e8b\u4e2d\u3002<\/strong><\/p>\n

The current situation in Ukraine is too dangerous, and the Chinese citizens wish to leave. Many overseas Chinese were not evacuated beforehand and are now trapped in the war.<\/em><\/p>\n

The verb in the example above \u2013 \u64a4<\/strong> (ch\u00e8) means to withdraw<\/em>, to take away<\/em>. It appears in several phrases meaning to withdraw<\/em>. All appear frequently in the news referring the situation in Ukraine.<\/p>\n
