The following is orientation for an “Earthquake Evacuation Drill” which is essentially a fire drill or \u6d88\u9632\u6f14\u4e60 (xi\u0101o f\u00e1ng y\u01cen x\u00ed). I figured it would be a good reason to get out of the teacher’s office, so I grabbed my video camera or \u6444\u50cf\u673a (sh\u00e8xi\u00e0ngj\u012b), expecting something interesting to materialize. I was not disappointed.<\/p>\n

After watching a highly dramatized re -enactment of the Sichuanese Earthquake or \u56db\u5ddd\u5730\u9707 (s\u00ecchu\u0101nd\u00eczh\u00e8n), I was told to stand out in the hall, and wait… I could feel tension building and the atmosphere changing as other teachers began to nervously enter the halls. Within seconds, the quiet linoleum halls were filled with a raucous throng or \u4eba\u7fa4 (r\u00e9nq\u00fan) of middle-schoolers, yelling, laughing and \u00a0darting every which way.
