\"\"<\/a>Confucius or \u5b54\u5b50 (K\u01d2ng Z\u01d0<\/em>) <\/em> <\/em> is China’s most famous philosopher, poet and scholar who lived from\u00a0 551 BC \u2013 479 BC, best known for his writings and musings on Chinese society and everyday life. His impact on Chinese culture has been so profound that some 2,500 years later his teachings are still well known and well respected.<\/p>\n

Like Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, and other Greek\/Roman philosophers,\u00a0 Confucius spent his entire life trying to reconcile the social world with the natural world, looking for truths throughout that would improve society and the relationship between man and spirituality.<\/p>\n

The philosophy of Confucius emphasized personal and governmental morality, correctness of social relationships, justice and sincerity. These values gained prominence in China over other doctrines, such as Legalism or \u6cd5\u5bb6 (f\u01ce<\/a> ji\u0101<\/a>) and Taoism or \u9053\u5bb6 (D\u00e0o<\/a> ji\u0101<\/a>) during the Han Dynasty (206 BC\u00a0\u2013 AD 220). As a result, Confucius’ thoughts have been developed into a system of philosophy known as Confucianism<\/em> or \u5112\u5bb6 (r\u00fa<\/a> ji\u0101<\/a>).<\/p>\n

The following is from the Confucian Analects<\/a>, Chapters 1-5. Many of these chapters are on issues of morality and self-betterment. Heed these words, for they are timeless and great advice on how to live your life.<\/p>\n

Chapter 1:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u4e0d\u60a3\u4eba\u4e4b\u4e0d\u5df1\u77e5\uff0c\u60a3\u4e0d\u77e5\u4eba\u4e5f\u3002<\/p>\n

“I am not bothered by the fact that I am unknown. I am bothered when I do not know others.”<\/p>\n

\u4e3b\u5fe0\u4fe1\u3002\u6bcb\u53cb\u4e0d\u5982\u5df1\u8005\u3002\u904e\uff0c\u5247\u52ff\u619a\u6539\u3002 <\/strong><\/p>\n

“Hold faithfulness and sincerity as first principles”.<\/strong> An English parable would be: “to thine own self be true”.<\/p>\n

Chapter 2:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Superior Man is all-embracing and not partial. The inferior man is partial and not all-embracing.<\/p>\n

Chapter 3:<\/strong><\/p>\n

“If a man has no humaneness what can his propriety be like? If a man has no humaneness what can his happiness be like?”<\/p>\n

Chapter 4:<\/strong><\/p>\n

“When we see men of worth, we should think of equaling them; when we see men of a contrary character, we should turn inwards and examine ourselves.”<\/p>\n

“The superior man is modest in his speech, but exceeds in his actions.” An English parable would be “actions speak louder than words”.<\/p>\n
