Har du set den ny Star Wars-film?<\/b> (Have you seen the new SW movie?) Ever since nyt\u00e5r<\/b> (New Year) I\u2019ve been wanting to do a post for all the Star Wars fans out there! But I hate to say it \u2013 besides lyssv\u00e6rd<\/b> (light sabre, literally \u201dlight sword\u201d!) and M\u00e5 kraften v\u00e6re med dig!<\/b> (May the force be with you!) there isn\u2019t a lot of Star Wars vocabulary in Danish: the Jedi<\/i> is jedien<\/b>, Princess Leia is prinsesse Leia,<\/b> Luke Skywalker <\/i>is \u2026 Luke Skywalker.<\/p>\n

The good<\/i> thing is: Lots of names from American (and English) popular culture have<\/i> got a Danish makeover! (Adds a bit of colour to the world, doesn\u2019t it?) Below you can see some of the most well-known ones \u2013 feel free to add comments if I\u2019ve forgotten anything! \ud83d\ude42 Ever since WW2 or so Danish children have been growing up with Disney \u2013 as you can see by the number of Disney-related names. (Of course Transparent Language is not affiliated with Disney or any other concern!) Fun fact: While lots of Americans love Mickey Mouse<\/b> (yes, that\u2019s the Danish name too), Anders And<\/b> (Donald Duck) is the popular one in Denmark! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n
