Kan du lide at kigge stjerner?<\/b> (Do you like watching stars?) Om sommeren er der lyse n\u00e6tter i Danmark, men snart begynder den m\u00f8rke tid\u2026 <\/b>(In summer there are Bright Nights in Denmark, but soon the dark period will begin\u2026) Here\u2019s some star-spangled Danish for chatting about stjernehimlen<\/b> (the starry sky). Use it with caution, though, so you don\u2019t kill et romantisk \u00f8jeblik<\/b> (a romantic moment) with too many word. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

Even when solen<\/b> (the sun) is up and busy, you can sometimes see m\u00e5nen<\/b> (the moon) above the Danish strande<\/b> (beaches) and byer<\/b> (towns). Of course, your chances improve after solnedgang<\/b> (sunsest) \u2013 and before solopgang<\/b> (sunrise) \u2013 when there are not too many skyer<\/b> (clouds).<\/p>\n

Most often the m\u00e5ne<\/b> is halv<\/b> [hal] (half), but sometimes you get the honour of staring into the face of fuldm\u00e5nen<\/b> (the full moon). (Can you see manden i m\u00e5nen<\/b> \u2013 the man in the moon?)<\/p>\n

Across den m\u00f8rke himmel<\/b> (the dark sky), you\u2019ll probably make out the famous pale ribbon that gave its name to a chocolate bar: the Milky Way, which has the delicious name of M\u00e6lkevejen<\/b> in Danish. And everywhere around you there are skinnende stjerner<\/b> (shining stars). Wait, was that a stjerneskud<\/b> (shooting star)? Skynd dig at \u00f8nske noget!<\/b> (Hurry up and make a wish!)<\/p>\n

Do you know any stjernebilleder<\/b> (constellations \u2013 literally \u201dstar images\u201d)? Danmark<\/b> (Denmark) is a Northern country, so even Danes who are usually not into stars know Karlsvognen<\/b> (the Big Dipper). Yes, of course, it\u2019s those 7 stars that look like a nice saucepan. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

I always thought Karlsvognen<\/b> meant \u201dKarl\u2019s wagon\u201d. Recently, though, I discovered that it actually means \u201dthe man\u2019s wagon\u201d \u2013 it was called so by vikingerne<\/b> (the Vikings)! If you draw a line upwards from the outer edge of the \u201dsaucepan\u201d, you\u2019ll soon hit the big, bright Nordstjernen<\/b> (the Northern Star).<\/p>\n

Fun fact:<\/i> Morgenstjernen<\/b> (the morning star) and Aftenstjernen<\/b> (the evening star) are actually both planeten<\/b> (the planet) Venus<\/b>, which shines really bright in horisonten<\/b> (the horizon).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"\"\"
