Here\u2019s a small guide to help you choose some kind words for your Danish friends\u2019 great life events.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Let\u2019s start with the sad part: When somebody has lost a loved one, a decent way of showing your respect would be: <b>Jeg\/Vi kondolerer. <\/b>(My\/Our condolences.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In more joyful situations, some variation of <b>tillykke med<\/b> (congratulations with, literally \u201dto-luck with\u201d) will take you far. Let\u2019s say a new baby is born. If the context is clear, you could perhaps go with a short: <b>Tillykke!<\/b> (Congratulations!) But I guess it\u2019s a good idea to add a little more information, especially on a <b>lyk\u00f8nskningskort<\/b> (congratulations card):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b>Tillykke med barnet!<\/b><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b>Hjerteligt tillykke med barnebarnet!<\/b> (Heartfelt congratulations with the grandchild!)<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b>Et stort tillykke med jeres s\u00f8de datter! <\/b>(\u201dA big congratulation\u201d with your gorgeous\/cute daughter!)<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b>Tillykke med barned\u00e5ben!<\/b> (Congratulations with the baptism!)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>F\u00f8dselsdage<\/b> (<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/danish\/2014\/07\/31\/birthdays-in-denmark\/\">birthdays<\/a>) are a really important event in Danes\u2019 lives.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>In the Danish-speaking universe, the universal thing to say is: <b>Tillykke med f\u00f8dselsdagen!<\/b> (Happy birthday!)<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">This neat formula is useful in dozens of situations:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b>Tillykke med k\u00f8rekortet<\/b> (congratulations with your driving licence)<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b>Tillykke med eksamen <\/b>(congratulations with [your] exam)<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b>Tillykke med det flotte resultat\u00a0<\/b>(congratulations with the great result)<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b>Tillykke med dit nye arbejde<\/b> (congratulations with your new job)<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b>Tillykke med jobbet\/bilen\/hunden\/trampolinen\u2026 <\/b>(congratulations with the job\/car\/dog\/trampoline\u2026)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\">In other settings, use some combination of <b>god<\/b> (good) and <b>held og lykke med<\/b> (good luck with):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b>God konfirmation!<\/b> (Happy confirmation!)<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b>Held og lykke med dit nye arbejde<\/b> (Good luck with your new arbejde)<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b>God bryllupsfest! <\/b>(Happy wedding party!)<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><b>Held og lykke videre!<\/b> (Good luck \u201dfurther on\u201d!
