They\u2019re like their own miniature sentences, loaded with meaning. (The meaning of <i>Yes!<\/i> could be \u201dI\u2019m so happy we won the match!\u201d) Here are some common Danish <b>udr\u00e5bsord <\/b>(interjections, literally \u201dexclamation words\u201d).<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b><i>Av <\/i><\/b>[auw]<b>, det gjorde ondt!<\/b> (<i>Ouch, <\/i>that hurt!)<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>Gammel Ole, <i>ad<\/i>, hvor ul\u00e6kkert! <\/b>(Gammel Ole, <i>yuck<\/i>, how disgusting! \u2013 <i>G.O.<\/i> is a very strong and smelly cheese.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b><i>Ssh!<\/i> Nu skal I v\u00e6re stille. <\/b>(<i>Hush<\/i>, you have to be quiet now!)<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>Nu har du igen svinet stuen til. <i>Fy!<\/i> <\/b>(Now you\u2019ve made a mess in the living-room again. <i>Shame!<\/i>)<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b><i>Hurra<\/i> for k\u00e6rligheden!<\/b> (Cheers\/<i>\u201dhurrah\u201d<\/i> for Love!)<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b><i>Yes<\/i>, det lykkedes!<\/b> (<i>Yes<\/i>, we managed\/made it! \u2013 <i>Literally: <\/i>It succeeded!)<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b><i>Ja<\/i>, jeg har det! <\/b>(<i>Yes<\/i>, I\u2019ve got it!)<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b><i>Nej,<\/i><\/b><i> <\/i><b>det er umuligt!<\/b> (No, it\u2019s impossible!)<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b><i>Ih<\/i>, det vil jeg gl\u00e6de mig til! <\/b>(<i>Gee<\/i>, I\u2019ll be looking forward to that!)<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b><i>Tjah, <\/i>hvad skal vi v\u00e6lge? <\/b><strong>Bl\u00e5 eller gul?<\/strong> (<i>Well<\/i>, what to choose? Blue or yellow?)<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b><i>Hm\u2026 <\/i>Det forst\u00e5r jeg alts\u00e5 ikke!<\/b> (<i>Hm\u2026 <\/i>I really don\u2019t understand that!)<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b><i>\u00d8h,<\/i> det ved jeg faktisk ikke\u2026<\/b> (<i>Um<\/i>, I actually don\u2019t know about that\u2026)<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b><i>\u00c5h nej, <\/i>hvad er der dog sket? <\/b>(<i>Oh no<\/i>, what happened?)<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Sometimes interjections are also used to call out somebody\u2019s attention:<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b><i>Hej! <\/i>Hvem er du? <\/b>(<i>Hi!<\/i> Who\u2019re you?)<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b><i>Hallo! <\/i>Er der nogen hjemme?<\/b> (Hello, is there anybody home?)<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b><i>Hey! <\/i>Du tabte dit pas!<i> <\/i><\/b><i>(Hey there!<\/i> You lost your passport!<i>)<\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b><i>Sk\u00e5l!<\/i> Og <i><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/danish\/2017\/10\/31\/happy-anniversaries-and-stuff\/\">tillykke<\/a>! <\/i><\/b>(<i>Cheers<\/i>!
