Of course, such a <b>sp\u00f8rgsm\u00e5l<\/b> (question) is very hard to answer\u2026 Besides, there are so many to pick! Below are my (current) candidates for the prize \u2013 do you (dis)agree?<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>\u00f8l<\/b> [<i>ur<\/i>l] (beer). Of course, not every Dane drinks beer\u2026 But in the home country of the Carlsberg brewery, you have to close your eyes a lot in order <i>not<\/i> to see all the beer-drinking going on! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>r\u00f8dgr\u00f8d med fl\u00f8de<\/b> (<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/danish\/2011\/07\/06\/strawberry-time\/\">red fruit porridge with cream)<\/a> is much less common on the tables, but many Danes love when you try to pronounce the tricky phrase! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>strand<\/b> [stran] (beach). In summer, Denmark has some of the most beautiful beaches\u2026 (In winter, some of the saddest.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>skov<\/b> [skorw] (forest). When <b>b\u00f8gen<\/b> (the beech) has got <b>lysegr\u00f8nne blade<\/b> (<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/danish\/2018\/05\/16\/trees-of-denmark\/\">bright green leaves<\/a>) in May, the woods of Denmark are really \u201dDanish\u201d \u2013 in a pleasant way\u2026<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>havfrue<\/b> (mermaid). Because of The Little Mermaid (<b>Den Lille Havfrue<\/b>) statue in CPH, based on a fairytale by H.C. Andersen, everybody associates Denmark with this <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/danish\/2017\/09\/29\/top-6-danish-monsters\/\">mythological<\/a> lady. With a bit of imagination, you might see her in the seas around the Danish <b>\u00f8er<\/b> (islands).<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>hygge<\/b> is a no-brainer. There\u2019s been written so much about <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/danish\/2015\/10\/16\/can-danish-hygge-save-the-world\/\">hygge<\/a>, that I\u2019ll just keep quiet on this one. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>dejlig<\/b> [diely] means nice or pleasant. The word has a \u201dhygge\u201d vibe, and \u2013 isn\u2019t it just <b>dejlig<\/b> to say?<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>f\u00e6llesskab<\/b> (community, togetherness). From music festivals to garden parties to <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/danish\/2012\/08\/21\/grundtvig-and-the-love-of-learning\/\"><b>h\u00f8jskoler<\/b><\/a>, Danes love doing things together in groups. (Yes, I know, sometimes non-Danes find it hard to get into the <b>f\u00e6llesskab<\/b>.
