Fortunately, the language we speak provides us with words to communicate these extremes. Let\u2019s look at the Danish all-inclusive menu of nothingness\u2026<\/p>\n<p>In order to \u201dremove\u201d things when speaking Danish, <strong>ingen<\/strong> (no one) and <strong>ikke<\/strong> (not) are your best tools.<br \/>\nCombine <strong>ikke<\/strong> with <strong>noget <\/strong>(anything) or <strong>nogen<\/strong> (anyone), and there\u2019s nothing you can\u2019t eliminate! \ud83d\ude42<br \/>\n<strong>Der er ingen hjemme.<\/strong> (There\u2019s nobody at home.)<br \/>\n<strong>De havde ingen penge.<\/strong> (They had no money.)<br \/>\n<strong>Hun kendte ikke nogen i den store by.<\/strong> (She knew no one in the big city. \/ She didn\u2019t know anybody in the big city.)<br \/>\n<strong>Du g\u00e5r ingen vegne <\/strong>[vye-neh]<strong>!<\/strong> (Don\u2019t you go anywhere!)<br \/>\n<strong>Men jeg har jo ikke gjort noget!<\/strong> (But I haven\u2019t done anything!)<br \/>\n<strong>Det ved jeg ikke noget om\u2026<\/strong> (I know nothing about that\u2026)<br \/>\n<strong>Mias familie har en hundehvalp, men vi har ikke nogen. <\/strong>(Mia\u2019s family has got a puppy, but we haven\u2019t got any.)<\/p>\n<p>Instead of <strong>ikke noget<\/strong> (nothing) it\u2019s also possible to say <strong>intet<\/strong> and <strong>ingenting<\/strong>. <strong>Intet<\/strong> sounds a bit more affirmative and maybe literary, but there are no strict rules here\u2026<br \/>\n<strong>Der er intet i verden s\u00e5 stille som sne.<\/strong> (There\u2019s nothing in the world as silent as snow. \u2013 A saying which comes from an old <a href=\"https:\/\/da.wikisource.org\/wiki\/Der_er_ingenting_i_verden_s%C3%A5_stille_som_sne\">song<\/a>. \ud83d\ude42 )<br \/>\n<strong>Hvad t\u00e6nker du p\u00e5? \u2013 Ingenting.<\/strong> (What are you thinking about? \u2013 Nothing.)<\/p>\n<p>When feeling linguistically inclusive, use some variety of <strong>alle <\/strong>(everybody, literally \u201deverybodies\u201d), <strong>alt<\/strong> (everything) or <strong>hver(t)<\/strong> (each).<br \/>\n<strong>Alle har v\u00e6ret s\u00e5 s\u00f8de og rare!<\/strong> (Everybody\u2019s been so kind and friendly! \u2013 <em>Note that the adjectivs take the plural form!<\/em>)<br \/>\n<strong>Alle b\u00f8rnene legede p\u00e5 stranden. <\/strong>(All the children were playing at the beach.)<br \/>\n<strong>Alt var stille.<\/strong> (Everything was quiet.)<br \/>\n<strong>Hver dag er en ny dag.<\/strong> (Every day is a new day.)<\/p>\n<p>Of course it is also possible to talk about time in extreme ways! \ud83d\ude42<br \/>\n<strong>Jeg vil altid elske dig.<\/strong> (I will always love you.)<br \/>\n<strong>Hvorfor vasker du aldrig op?<\/strong> (Why do you never do the dishes?)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<img width=\"350\" height=\"233\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/danish\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/30\/2018\/08\/nothing-3189115_1920-350x233.jpg\" class=\"attachment-post-thumbnail size-post-thumbnail wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/danish\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/30\/2018\/08\/nothing-3189115_1920-350x233.jpg 350w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/danish\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/30\/2018\/08\/nothing-3189115_1920-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/danish\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/30\/2018\/08\/nothing-3189115_1920-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/danish\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/30\/2018\/08\/nothing-3189115_1920.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><p>Sometimes *everything* seems chaotic, and *nothing* makes sense.
