So begins <em>Peters Jul<\/em> (Peter\u2019s Christmas), an old children\u2019s book that still colours the way Danes view Christmas\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Published by Johan Krohn in 1870, the illustrated <strong>bog<\/strong> [book] has become a Danish Xmas cult classic that keeps turning up again and again in Danish homes. I guess generally <strong>julen<\/strong> [yooln] is a nostalgic time for many Danes, where you take on your rose-coloured glasses and look back at the \u201dgood old days\u201d \u2013 before <strong>nyt\u00e5r<\/strong> (New Year) sets in and it\u2019s time to party and look forward. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Here\u2019s a classical quote from the story to give you some idea of the mood.
