It\u2019s <strong>Black Friday<\/strong> \u2013 a tradition recently imported from the US. Yet, despite all the shopping, <strong>milj\u00f8et<\/strong> (the environment) is a hot topic in Denmark, and Danish people are making efforts to live more <strong>milj\u00f8venlig<\/strong> (environmentally friendly).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hvad kan jeg g\u00f8re for at hj\u00e6lpe milj\u00f8et<\/strong> (what can I do to help the environment), lots of Danes seem to ask themselves. People buy <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/danish\/2018\/01\/28\/talking-about-food\/\">\u00f8kologisk<\/a> mad<\/strong> (biodynamic food), made of plants that are grown without pesticides. In many Danish shops, things like <strong>gr\u00f8ntsager<\/strong> (vegetables) come in both a \u201dnormal\u201d and an <strong>\u00f8kologisk<\/strong> edition \u2013 which is often the biggest seller, even if it\u2019s more expensive. As far as I can tell, Danes also do more shopping in <strong>genbrugsforretninger<\/strong> (second-hand shops) than most other Europeans. And only the Dutch use their <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/danish\/2011\/07\/18\/land-of-bicycles\/\">bikes<\/a> more! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>Like people elsewhere, Danes are discussing <strong>klimaet<\/strong> (the climate) and many are concerned about <strong>global opvarmning<\/strong> (global warming). During the 2019 elections for the Danish parliament, all the political parties talked about <strong>milj\u00f8et<\/strong>, which turned out to be <em>the<\/em> most important topic for voters. While environmentalism used to be niche, it has now become very mainstream, and communities all over the country are taking steps to become \u201d<strong>gr\u00f8n\u201d <\/strong>(green) \u2013 for example by replacing <strong>plastikposer <\/strong>(plastic bags) with <strong>indk\u00f8bsnet <\/strong>(textile shopping bags).<\/p>\n<p>Danes often pride themselves of being windmill pioneers, with companies such as Vestas raising <strong>vindm\u00f8ller<\/strong> (windmills) all over the world. The central Danish island of <strong>Sams\u00f8 <\/strong>is internationally known for using only clean energy.<\/p>\n<p>If you travel around Denmark, you\u2019ll probably sooner or later notice the big, smoking <strong>skorstene<\/strong> (chimneys) from <strong>kulkraftv\u00e6rker<\/strong> (coal power plants). This shows that there is still a lot of <strong>forurening<\/strong> (pollution) in the country. It has also been a problem that many <strong>blomster<\/strong> (flowers) and <strong>dyr<\/strong> (animals) such as <strong>bier<\/strong> (bees) are disappearing from the countryside.
