Image courtesy of Pixabay; no copyright.)<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Det er en sv\u00e6r tid for mange mennesker. <\/strong>(It\u2019s a hard time for many people.) <strong>Men livet m\u00e5 g\u00e5 videre!<\/strong> (But life must go on!) <strong>M\u00e5ske kan du bruge noget af ventetiden p\u00e5 at l\u00e6re dansk?<\/strong> (Maybe you can spend some of the waiting time on learning Danish?) Here\u2019s some core vocabulary and a bit of information to help you and your loved ones stay safe and move forward towards brighter days.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Virussen<\/strong> [VEERoosn] (the virus) causing all the trouble is called <strong>corona <\/strong>by most Danes, too. (Of course that little bastard\u2019s fancy nickname \u2013 which means crown in <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/latin\/\">Latin<\/a> \u2013 is pronounced with a Danish twist. For example, the R is a slight <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/danish\/2012\/04\/15\/sounds-r-us\/\">rasp<\/a> at the back of your throat.)<\/p>\n<p>As far as I understand, <strong>coronavirus<\/strong> spreads <strong>fra person til person <\/strong>[pareSOHN] through those small <strong>dr\u00e5ber<\/strong> (drops) that come flying through the air whenever you <strong>nyser<\/strong> (sneeze), <strong>hoster<\/strong> (cough) or even <strong>snakker<\/strong> (talk). That\u2019s why it\u2019s crucial <strong>at holde afstand<\/strong> (to keep a distance) of 1-2m. Also, those droplets may easily get onto your <strong>h\u00e6nder<\/strong> (hands), and into your <strong>\u00f8jne\/n\u00e6se\/mund<\/strong> (eyes\/nose\/mouth) when you accidentally touch your face. Which is why it is <strong>meget vigtigt<\/strong> (very important) to avoid handshakes, and to keep your hands and your belongings clean. (Sigh, you can\u2019t even share a <strong>kram<\/strong> \u2013 hug\u2026 \ud83d\ude41 )<\/p>\n<p>Last week, the Danish PM <strong>Mette Frederiksen<\/strong> and her <strong>regering<\/strong> [reGEHRing] (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.regeringen.dk\/nyheder\/samlet-overblik-over-coronasmitte\/\">government<\/a>) introduced tough measures to try to slow down <strong>smitten<\/strong> (the infection), appealing to Danes\u2019 sense of <strong>samfundssind <\/strong>(community spirit). As in many other <strong>lande<\/strong> (countries), public places where <strong>mennesker<\/strong> (people) normally meet have been shut, and everyone is asked to stay <strong>hjemme<\/strong> [yemmeh] (at home) as much as possible. <strong>Gr\u00e6nserne<\/strong> (the borders) have been closed, and people with symptoms are asked to <strong>g\u00e5 i karant\u00e6ne<\/strong> (go into quarantine). Everything, of course, is done to prevent people getting <strong>smittet<\/strong> (infected) \u2013 especially <strong>\u00e6ldre og svage<\/strong> (old people and weak ones), who might not survive <strong>den nye sygdom<\/strong> (the new disease). Also, the staffs at <strong>hospitalerne<\/strong> (the hospitals) can only take care of a limited number of <strong>patienter<\/strong> (patients) at a time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I g\u00e5r<\/strong> (yesterday), social life suffered another blow when the government announced that only groups of 10 or fewer persons were allowed to gather in public. Denmark\u2019s \u201dMother\u201d, <strong>Dronning <\/strong>(Queen)<strong> Margrethe 1.<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dr.dk\/nyheder\/indland\/dronning-margrethe-man-kan-ikke-vaere-fester-og-runde-foedselsdage-bekendt#!\/\">chimed in<\/a> with a heartfelt speech to the people, where she encouraged everybody to <strong>tage ansvar<\/strong> (take responsibility) and avoid getting together for things like <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/danish\/2014\/07\/31\/birthdays-in-denmark\/\">birthday<\/a> celebrations.
