Der er for\u00e5r i luften!<\/strong> (Spring is in the air!) Even though February is traditionally considered a vinterm\u00e5ned<\/strong> (winter<\/a> month) in Denmark, the country surprisingly just jumped from frost og sne<\/strong> (frost and snow) to open blomster<\/strong> (flowers) \u2013 some<\/a> say the temperatur<\/strong> increased more than 30 degrees in about a week (from -20 \u00b0C to 14\u00b0C some places)!<\/span><\/p>\n

Of course, for\u00e5ret<\/strong> (spring, literally \u201dthe fore-year\u201d) is a beautiful season in many places. For me, though, the contrast is particularly striking in Denmark, where so many winters are just dark and rainy (with just a few shining days of sne<\/strong>). All of a sudden, tr\u00e6erne<\/strong> (the trees) st\u00e5r i knop<\/strong> (are in bud), and the golden sol<\/strong> (sun) is filling people\u2019s faces with renewed optimisme<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The transformation of spring is so magical in Denmark that many songs have been written about it. The following song, which many Danes know from pop singer Kim Larsen\u2019s rendition<\/a>, nicely captures the mood. (The text was written in 1895, so the copyright has expired.)<\/span><\/p>\n
