(Photo by the blogger.)<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Jeg er normalt ikke til fodbold, men\u2026<\/strong> (I normally don\u2019t like football\/soccer, but\u2026) Recently, variants of that phrase have been buzzing around everywhere in the air of <strong>Danmark<\/strong>. <strong>Fodbold-EM<\/strong> [fothbolt-eh-em] (the European Football Championship) is upon us, and almost everybody has a good excuse to be excited! <strong>Farvel, nedlukning \u2013 goddag, kvartfinale!<\/strong> (Goodbye, lockdown \u2013 hello, quarter-final!)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Den 12. juni<\/strong> (the 12<span style=\"font-size: 69%\">th<\/span> of June), the world stopped. Suddenly, everybody from London to Moscow was talking about the Danish <strong>fodboldspiller <\/strong>(football player) <strong>Christian Eriksen<\/strong>. In the middle of Denmark\u2019s first <strong>kamp<\/strong> (match), against <strong>Finland<\/strong>, Eriksen collapsed! If you saw it, it\u2019ll probably be etched into your memory for a while. Eriksen\u2019s <strong>holdkammerater<\/strong> (team mates) p\u00e5 <strong>landsholdet <\/strong>(the national team) were standing around him, crying. <strong>Er han d\u00f8d<\/strong> (is he dead)? That evening, you could literally read the thoughts on the face of every <strong>fodbold-fan<\/strong> walking the streets where I live.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, Eriksen came back to life. And now the Danish players had a reason to win \u2013 for Eriksen! First they beat <strong>Rusland<\/strong> (Russia), and no one believed their eyes. Then, five days ago, they tamed <strong>den walisiske<\/strong> <strong>drage<\/strong> (the Welsh dragon) and beat <strong>Wales<\/strong> 4\u20130. <strong>K\u00f8benhavn<\/strong> exploded with joy, and in every Danish <strong>by<\/strong> (town) <strong>ellevilde fans <\/strong>(fans wild with joy) were wearing <strong>r\u00f8dt og hvidt<\/strong> (red and white) and shouting: <strong>fire nul!<\/strong> [feereh nawl!] (Four nil!)<\/p>\n<p>Now, even people who <strong>normalt aldrig ser fodbold<\/strong> (normally never watch football) are eagerly anticipating <strong>kvartfinalen mod Tjekkiet<\/strong> (the quarter final against Czechia) on Saturday.
