\"\"<\/a>In my experience, one of the best ways to appropriate the basics of a foreign language, is to read a lot of poetry and children\u2019s literature. The two blend nicely in \u201dSnemand Frost\u201d (Snowman Frost), a poem by beloved poet Halfdan Rasmussen (1915-2002). With this simple \u2013 albeit tragic! \u2013 love story I would like to wish you all a happy Valentine\u2019s day<\/span>!<\/p>\n

The text itself should be pretty straightforward. S\u00f8nders\u00f8<\/a> (\u2019Southern Lake\u2019) is the name of several Danish s\u00f8|er<\/strong> (lake|s). The Copenhagener poet might have had S\u00f8nders\u00f8 in North Zealand in mind. kyssed\u2019<\/strong> is a poetic shortening of kyssede<\/strong>, \u2019kissed\u2019. (The final e<\/em> isn\u2019t pronounced in the spoken language anyway. Likewise, ha\u2019<\/strong> is a written representation of the way [at] have<\/strong>, \u2019[to] have\u2019 or \u2019[to] keep\u2019, usually sounds.) Here we go:<\/p>\n

\nTalked a bit about love.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

\nMen da fr\u00f8ken T\u00f8 var varm<\/span>

\nasked: \u201dMay I kiss you?\u201d<\/em><\/span>
\nBut as Miss Thaw was hot<\/em><\/span>
\nHis right arm melted.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

\nsvandt han ganske langsomt ind.<\/span>
\nDa han kyssed\u2019 hendes mund,<\/span>
\nblev han v\u00e6k i samme stund.<\/span><\/p>\n

When he kissed her cheek<\/em><\/span>
\nHe shrank quite slowly.<\/em><\/span>
\nWhen he kissed her mouth<\/em><\/span>
\nhe was gone at the same moment.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n
