(Have you tried the new <a href=\"http:\/\/learn.transparent.com\/mylearning\/public\/modern\/trial\">TL Online<\/a>, by the way?) \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll make an exception, though, for the recent Danish winner of <strong>Den Europ\u00e6iske Sprogpris 2012<\/strong> (the European Language Award 2012). This award is given every year to people with innovative ideas in the field of language learning in the various EU countries. The Danish gold medallist, the <strong>Videnscenter for Integration<\/strong> (the Integration Knowledge Center), has created <strong>Dansksimulatoren<\/strong> (the Danish [Language] Simulator), which seems like the dream of every online learner: A virtual Danish-speaking reality!<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Danish Simulator intro_US\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/mLz0FT4Sz00?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>According to <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/sproget.dk\/nyheder\/vinderen-af-den-europaeiske-sprogpris-2012-er-fundet\">sproget.dk<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 the excellent online dictionary run by <strong>Dansk Sprogn\u00e6vn<\/strong> (the Danish Language Council) \u2013 the game was based on simulation software used by American soldiers in order to gain an understanding of the language and customs of Iraq. Obviously, <strong>Dansksimulatoren<\/strong> has been modified to fit conditions in Denmark.<\/p>\n<p>In the game, you play the role of the Hawaiian Bob, who has travelled to the East Jutland town of <strong>Vejle<\/strong>. As you plan to write a tourist guide, you have to ask the local <strong>vejlensere<\/strong> a lot of questions \u2013 in Danish!<\/p>\n<p>The good thing about a simulator is that not only does it teach you how to say things, it also <em>shows<\/em> you how to say them, which gestures to use, what distance you should keep to your <strong>samtalepartner<\/strong> (interlocutor) \u2013 in short, all those extra-linguistic aspects to correct communication that an ordinary language course isn\u2019t really capable of teaching you.<\/p>\n<p>In Denmark, many immigrants learn Danish at a <strong>sprogcenter<\/strong> (language center).
