It\u2019s time for <strong>k\u00f8ernes for\u00e5rsdans <\/strong>(the spring-dance of the cows).<\/p>\n<p><strong>I forg\u00e5rs<\/strong> (the day before yesterday), my sister, I and <em>at least<\/em> 1000 other persons travelled to Raunh\u00f8j, one of several Danish farms that had decided to <strong>slippe k\u00f8erne fri <\/strong>(let the cows loose) at the same time. <strong>I gamle dage <\/strong>(in olden days), this was, of course, a private, joyful event that took place independently at each <strong>bondeg\u00e5rd <\/strong>(farm). <strong>Takket v\u00e6re <\/strong>(thanks to) the internet, it has recently become a public happening. This year\u2019s magical moment was set to <strong>s\u00f8ndag 21. april klokken 12<\/strong>. Passionate cow-watchers could easily access a <strong>hjemmeside <\/strong>(homepage) and find the nearest farm.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, the Danish <strong>mejerier<\/strong> (dairies) helped promote the event \u2013 which they\u2019ve branded as <strong>\u00d8kodag<\/strong>. If you\u2019ve ever been to a Danish foodstore, you know that Danes are crazy about <strong>\u00f8kologisk mad<\/strong> (organic\/biodynamic food \u2013 that is, food that has been grown without the farmers using poisonous fertilizers). So, \u201d<strong>\u00d8kodag<\/strong>\u201d is a snappy way to say \u201dorganic day\u201d or \u201dbiodynamic day\u201d. So many <strong>b\u00f8rn og voksne<\/strong> (children and adults) were looking at their watches and talking about the cows, that I\u2019m sure they must have become quite nervous in their stable!
