I don\u2019t know if Danes are heavier <strong>Facebook-brugere<\/strong> (FB users) than for example Californians, but I imagine that we do spend more time in front of our <strong>computere<\/strong> and <strong>smartphones<\/strong> (or <strong>smarttelefoner<\/strong>) than people in countries that don\u2019t have such looong winters! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>Since I don\u2019t use social media a lot \u2013 I\u2019m more of an e-mail kind of person \u2013 I asked a friend to help me with some useful vocabulary. As you\u2019ve probably already noticed, it is not unusual that a word is taken directly from English. As my friend put it: \u201dI\u2019d probably only use those words in a Facebook context, where I can keep an ironic distance [to the communication]. I\u2019d never say that <strong>jeg like\u2019er<\/strong>\u00a0something in real life, there I\u2019d of course just use the normal Danish words [<a title=\"Liking Things\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/danish\/2012\/03\/08\/liking-things\/\"><strong>jeg kan lide<\/strong><\/a>].\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <strong>Fj\u00e6sbog<\/strong> [FYESbouw] or <strong>Fj\u00e6sbogen<\/strong>: A Danish name for Facebook. It means Mugbook, so don\u2019t use it in case the situation isn\u2019t humorous.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 How many <strong>Facebook-venner<\/strong> (FB friends) have you got?<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <strong>Er du popul\u00e6r?<\/strong> (Are you popular?) Well, okay, that\u2019s not what it is about, I mean, have you shared something that a lot of people <strong>synes om<\/strong> (like)? Has your <strong>foto<\/strong> or <strong>link<\/strong> got many <strong>likes<\/strong>?<\/p>\n<p>Some things you can do on social media:<br \/>\n\u2022 <strong>at sende en besked<\/strong> (to send a message)<br \/>\n\u2022 <strong>at svare<\/strong> (to answer)<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <strong>at tagge et billede<\/strong>\u00a0(to tag a picture)<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <strong>at dele noget<\/strong> (to share something)<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <strong>at l\u00e6gge noget op p\u00e5 v\u00e6ggen<\/strong> (to publish something on your wall)<br \/>\n\u2022 <strong>at opdatere\/\u00e6ndre\/slette sin profil<\/strong> (to update\/change\/delete one\u2019s profil)<\/p>\n<p>While many Danes are also on Linked-In and Google+, Twitter hasn\u2019t quite caught on (at least not when compared to the US). <strong>At tweete<\/strong>\u00a0[TVEEteh or TWEEteh] (to tweet), however, has entered the Danish language: <strong>Jeg tweeter, i g\u00e5r tweetede jeg, jeg har tweetet\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<img width=\"350\" height=\"215\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/danish\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/30\/2013\/09\/6174430367_00bc041ee8-350x215.jpg\" class=\"attachment-post-thumbnail size-post-thumbnail wp-post-image tmp-hide-img\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/danish\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/30\/2013\/09\/6174430367_00bc041ee8-350x215.jpg 350w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/danish\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/30\/2013\/09\/6174430367_00bc041ee8.jpg 388w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><p>In Denmark, most folks are online, and to many people\u00a0sociale medier\u00a0(social media) like Facebook are just as important as br\u00f8d or m\u00e6lk.
