{"id":1321,"date":"2011-04-12T20:03:21","date_gmt":"2011-04-12T20:03:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/dutch\/?p=1321"},"modified":"2011-10-26T13:23:45","modified_gmt":"2011-10-26T13:23:45","slug":"meet-my-family","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/dutch\/meet-my-family\/","title":{"rendered":"Meet My Family"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Knowing how to talk about your family in Dutch is not only useful for answering questions when put on the spot but is also handy as a conversation starter.\u00a0 Of course to do that, you need to know some family related words and key phrases.\u00a0 Let me introduce you to my family, as a starting point.<\/p>\n<p><em>Ik ben de oudste van drie kinderen.\u00a0 Ik heb een zus en ik heb een broer.\u00a0 Mijn zus is getrouwd en heeft een kind, een dochter.\u00a0 De dochter is mijn nicht en de kleindochter van mijn moeder.\u00a0 Mijn moeder en vader zijn gescheiden. \u00a0Ik heb ook een stiefvader.\u00a0 Mijn moeder heeft een zus en twee broers.\u00a0 Zij zijn mijn tante en ooms.\u00a0 Mijn oma en opa wonen vlakbij mijn moeder.\u00a0 Ik heb ook een overgrootmoeder.\u00a0 Zij is 94!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Translation:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I am the oldest of three children.\u00a0 I have a sister and I have a brother.\u00a0 My sister is married and has a child, a daughter.\u00a0 The daughter is my niece and my mother\u2019s granddaughter.\u00a0 My mother and father are divorced. \u00a0I also have a step-father.\u00a0 My mother has a sister and two brothers.\u00a0 They are my aunt and uncles.\u00a0 My grandma and grandpa live close by my mother.\u00a0 I also have a great grandmother.\u00a0 She is 94!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Vocabulary:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>broer<\/em> (brother)<\/li>\n<li><em>grootmoeder\/oma<\/em> (grandmother\/grandma)<\/li>\n<li><em>grootvader\/opa<\/em> (grandfather\/grandpa)<\/li>\n<li><em>kind<\/em> (child)<\/li>\n<li><em>kleindochter<\/em> (granddaughter)<\/li>\n<li><em>kleinkind<\/em> (grandchild)<\/li>\n<li><em>kleinzoon<\/em> (grandson)<\/li>\n<li><em>moeder\/mama<\/em> (mother\/mum\/mom)<\/li>\n<li><em>neef<\/em> (cousin;
