{"id":1327,"date":"2011-04-14T18:49:17","date_gmt":"2011-04-14T18:49:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/dutch\/?p=1327"},"modified":"2014-07-18T15:03:36","modified_gmt":"2014-07-18T15:03:36","slug":"get-into-the-orange-party-spirit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/dutch\/get-into-the-orange-party-spirit\/","title":{"rendered":"Get Into the Orange Party Spirit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Queen\u2019s Day \u2013 the once a year event where everyone covers their immediate surroundings (including themselves) in orange, drags out their unwanted possessions to sell at the free market and for many, consumes large amounts of alcohol. \u00a0If you aren\u2019t able to catch a flight to the Netherlands and live in the United Kingdom, then you might still be in luck to participate in a little orange spirit at Holland House 2011.<\/p>\n<p>Holland House 2011 is an event to celebrate Queen\u2019s Day that will be taking place in London\u2019s Trafalgar Square on Saturday, April 16<sup>th<\/sup>.\u00a0 Granted you will all be celebrating two weeks ahead of us here in the Netherlands but a party is a party, especially when it involves orange.\u00a0 Entrance to the festival is free and activities ranging from a Dutch market to live music will take place from 12-8pm.\u00a0 So, what exactly can you expect?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Dutch Market<\/p>\n<p>Stroll around the stands of the Dutch Market.\u00a0 In between the tulips and\u00a0chunks\u00a0of cheese, you will find a whole host of Dutch delights including stroopwafels, poffertjes, fries, frikandels and krokets.\u00a0 Try one or try them all.\u00a0 Either way you can enjoy a little taste of the Netherlands.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Live Music<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A party is not a party without a bit of music.\u00a0 Dutch bands will be playing live on stage for your enjoyment.\u00a0 The line-up features Storybox, De Coronas, Boris, Typhoon &amp; Cool Collective and Baskerville.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Activities<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Drop the kids off at the Kids Corner and then feel free to join in the Double Dutch Skipping contest.\u00a0 If skipping isn\u2019t really your thing then why not join one of the free Dutch paintings tours at the National Gallery taking place at 3:30 and 4:30pm.\u00a0 Bike stunts on mountain bikes can be seen back at Trafalgar Square and there are opportunities to win a \u2018Van Gogh\u2019 bike and Dutch city breaks.<\/p>\n<p>If you need some more enticement than have a look at this video from last year\u2019s Holland House.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Holland House London 2010 (Official NBTC video)\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/kVMOJb9WnDI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer;
