{"id":1396,"date":"2011-05-31T11:20:34","date_gmt":"2011-05-31T11:20:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/dutch\/?p=1396"},"modified":"2014-07-18T15:06:06","modified_gmt":"2014-07-18T15:06:06","slug":"de-hoge-veluwe-national-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/dutch\/de-hoge-veluwe-national-park\/","title":{"rendered":"De Hoge Veluwe National Park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you have done any research on the Netherlands or visited here, then you are probably quite familiar with the cities of Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Den Haag.<\/p>\n<p>You may even know about Eindhoven, Arnhem and Maastricht.<\/p>\n<p>But you may not be aware of the 5,400 hectares of woodland, heathland, peat bogs and drift sand located in the province of Gelderland that makes up the national park, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hogeveluwe.nl\/en\/14\" target=\"_blank\">De Hoge Veluwe<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>De Hoge Veluwe National Park was originally formed in the early 20<sup>th<\/sup> century by the couple Anton and Helene Kr\u00f6ller-M\u00fcller.\u00a0 Anton was a keen huntsman and Helene was a fan of art.\u00a0 Together they decided to unite their two interests by creating a wildlife park and art museum.\u00a0 From 1909 to 1923, the parks foundations were laid, animals were brought in, works of art were purchased and the construction of the art collection museum began.\u00a0 But the economic crisis in 1923 hit the couple hard.\u00a0 The park was transferred to De Hoge Veluwe National Park and the art collection was donated to the Kingdom of the Netherlands.\u00a0 Despite the change in plans and owners, the aim has remained the same \u2013 to bring together nature and culture for the common interest.<\/p>\n<p>A visit to De Hoge Veluwe National Park will put you in touch with nature.\u00a0 There are a vast array of walks, cycle tours and bridle paths.\u00a0 You\u2019ll also find three museums, food and drink facilities, a park shop, a campsite and organized activities.\u00a0 There are also the famous white bikes, which I will tell you about next week.\u00a0 In other words, there is something for everyone and plenty to keep you busy.<\/p>\n<p>The wildlife population within the park (big game, spring population figures), consists of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>200 red game (deer)<\/li>\n<li>300 fawn game (roe)<\/li>\n<li>50 black game (wild boar)<\/li>\n<li>200 mouflons (Corsican sheep)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The park is open for various times depending on the month, so it is best to check the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hogeveluwe.nl\/en\/14\" target=\"_blank\">website<\/a> before you go.\u00a0 But in general, you will find it open at least from 9am to 6pm.\u00a0 The Visitor Centre, Museonder, Park Shop and the Kr\u00f6ller-M\u00fcller museum all have their own separate opening times.<\/p>\n<p>An adult ticket to enter the park will cost you \u20ac8.\u00a0 A ticket for children aged six to twelve is \u20ac4 and to park your car outside the entrance will be \u20ac2.\u00a0 For more information, visit the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hogeveluwe.nl\/en\/14\" target=\"_blank\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Have you visited De Hoge Veluwe National Park?\u00a0 What were the best bits?\u00a0 What hints and tips do you have for visiting?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<img width=\"232\" height=\"350\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/dutch\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2011\/05\/Cyclist_op_Hoge_Veluwe_72dpi_680x1024px_E-232x350.jpg\" class=\"attachment-post-thumbnail size-post-thumbnail wp-post-image tmp-hide-img\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/dutch\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2011\/05\/Cyclist_op_Hoge_Veluwe_72dpi_680x1024px_E-232x350.jpg 232w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/dutch\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2011\/05\/Cyclist_op_Hoge_Veluwe_72dpi_680x1024px_E.jpg 680w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 232px) 100vw, 232px\" \/><p>If you have done any research on the Netherlands or visited here, then you are probably quite familiar with the cities of Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Den Haag.
