{"id":1509,"date":"2011-08-20T17:43:27","date_gmt":"2011-08-20T17:43:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/dutch\/?p=1509"},"modified":"2014-07-18T15:12:09","modified_gmt":"2014-07-18T15:12:09","slug":"een-avond-naar-de-bioscoop-a-night-at-the-cinema","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/dutch\/een-avond-naar-de-bioscoop-a-night-at-the-cinema\/","title":{"rendered":"Een Avond Naar de Bioscoop: A Night at the Cinema"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Wednesday <em>(Woensdag)<\/em>, I went to the cinema <em>(bioscoop)<\/em> with a friend to see the film, Bridesmaids.\u00a0 We bought our tickets <em>(kaartjes)<\/em> before grabbing a bite to eat.\u00a0 Since it was also \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pathe.nl\/special\/ladiesnight\" target=\"_blank\">Ladies Night<\/a>\u201d for one of the other films, the area around the ticket desks was already quite busy <em>(druk)<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>When we got back from eating, we showed the employee <em>(medewerker)<\/em> our tickets and entered the realm of food <em>(eten)<\/em> and drinks <em>(drinken)<\/em>.\u00a0 Both my friend and I decided to have a beer <em>(een bier)<\/em> and we also decided to share <em>(delen)<\/em> a popcorn.\u00a0 We had the choice between sweet <em>(zoet)<\/em> or salted <em>(zout)<\/em>.\u00a0 We went with the salted.<\/p>\n<p>After paying <em>(betalen)<\/em> for our items we checked our tickets to see which screening room <em>(zaal)<\/em> we were in.\u00a0 We also checked for our seat <em>(stoel)<\/em> and row <em>(rij)<\/em> number to make sure we weren\u2019t the two people caught out for being in the wrong seats.<\/p>\n<p>Before the film began there were advertisements <em>(reclames)<\/em> for other films and products, including the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.grolsch.nl\/\" target=\"_blank\">Grolsch<\/a> beer we had in our hands.\u00a0 There was also a reminder to put our mobiles on quiet <em>(stil)<\/em>.\u00a0 Since we were watching a comedy <em>(een komedie)<\/em> there were lots of times that we were laughing <em>(lachen)<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>After the film <em>(na de film)<\/em> we went down the stairs <em>(de trappen af gaan)<\/em> towards the exit <em>(uitgang)<\/em> and received a free <em>(gratis)<\/em> bottle of Coca-Cola.\u00a0 It was an enjoyable evening <em>(het was een leuke avond)<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Some Related Vocabulary<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>adventure film \u2013 <em>avonturen film<\/em><\/li>\n<li>horror film \u2013 <em>griezel film<\/em><\/li>\n<li>romantic film \u2013 <em>liefdes film<\/em><\/li>\n<li>historical film \u2013 <em>historische film<\/em><\/li>\n<li>detective film \u2013 <em>detective film<\/em><\/li>\n<li>a western \u2013 <em>een western<\/em><\/li>\n<li>war film \u2013 <em>oorlogs film<\/em><\/li>\n<li>cartoon \u2013 <em>tekenfilm<\/em><\/li>\n<li>documentary \u2013 <em>documentaire<\/em><\/li>\n<li>political film \u2013 <em>politieke film<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Some Tips<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A great website to see which movies are showing in your area and when is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pathe.nl\/\">www.pathe.nl<\/a>.\u00a0 You can also book tickets via the website.<\/li>\n<li>Next to the name of a film (usually cartoons or family films), you will sometimes see <strong><em>(NL)<\/em><\/strong> or <em><strong>(OV)<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 <em>OV<\/em> stands for <em>originele versie<\/em> (original version) meaning that the film will be played in the language it was filmed in (often English).\u00a0 <em>NL<\/em>, therefore stands for <em>Nederlands<\/em>, indicating that the film will be dubbed in Dutch.<\/li>\n<li>Films without <strong><em>(NL)<\/em><\/strong> or <em><strong>(OV)<\/strong><\/em> are shown in the language they were filmed in.\u00a0 If this was not Dutch, then Dutch subtitles will usually be displayed below.\u00a0 Film festivals and special events are different.\u00a0 These will often display English subtitles.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<img width=\"300\" height=\"156\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/dutch\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2011\/08\/979536_seats.jpg\" class=\"attachment-post-thumbnail size-post-thumbnail wp-post-image tmp-hide-img\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" \/><p>On Wednesday (Woensdag), I went to the cinema (bioscoop) with a friend to see the film, Bridesmaids.\u00a0 We bought our tickets (kaartjes) before grabbing a bite to eat.\u00a0 Since it was also \u201cLadies Night\u201d for one of the other films, the area around the ticket desks was already quite busy (druk).
