Numbers: Becoming a Number Pro"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you are relatively new to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.transparent.com\/learn-dutch\/\" target=\"_blank\">learning the Dutch language<\/a>, then one of the first things you probably want to learn is how to count.\u00a0 A good goal, especially as knowing the numbers really does open doors.\u00a0 For example, you\u2019ll be able to understand how much something costs when the salesperson tells you the amount, you can specify how many of something you want and perhaps even more important, you can understand where the traffic cameras are when the radio station rattles off their location (you\u2019ll hear the road name\/number and the kilometer location).<\/p>\n<p>So let\u2019s start off with the numbers zero to ten:<\/p>\n<table doesn\u2019t seem to know the word for zero.\u00a0 One thing to remember with this set of numbers is the number one (<em>\u00e9\u00e9n<\/em>).\u00a0 Those marks above the e\u2019s are important.\u00a0 They let you know that the word is <em>\u00e9\u00e9n<\/em>, meaning one and not <em>een<\/em>, meaning a\/an (and that you should pronounce them accordingly).<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" when you count up from 20 the format comes in the form of \u201ctwenty plus four,\u201d so you get twenty-four.\u00a0 But in Dutch it is the other way round.\u00a0 So, the form is \u201cfour plus twenty,\u201d equaling <em>vierentwintig<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Once you get your head around it, it can be quite fun and you can impress everyone with the ability to read really long words (you don\u2019t have to mention that they are numbers).\u00a0 For example:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>vierenveertighonderdachtennegentig<\/em> = 4498<\/p>\n<p>If you really want to hear all the
