{"id":1643,"date":"2011-11-01T14:34:39","date_gmt":"2011-11-01T14:34:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/dutch\/?p=1643"},"modified":"2014-07-18T15:19:44","modified_gmt":"2014-07-18T15:19:44","slug":"november-in-the-netherlands","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/dutch\/november-in-the-netherlands\/","title":{"rendered":"November in the Netherlands"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Can you believe that another month is upon us and that before we know it, 2012 will be knocking at our door?\u00a0 I know I can\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>Fall and winter are actually my favourite times of the year.\u00a0 I love the cold, the scented candles, the festive atmosphere and of course the food.\u00a0 The Netherlands during the last few months of the year can be a dangerous place to be if you are looking to count calories \u2013 what with all those chocolate letters, Christmas cookies and oliebollen about.<\/p>\n<p>So just what is there to look forward to for the month of November in the Netherlands?\u00a0 Here are some things that make my list:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.n8.nl\/2011\/\" target=\"_blank\">Museum Night Amsterdam<\/a> (November 5<sup>th<\/sup>) \u2013 I\u2019ve mentioned the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/dutch\/happy-birthday-rotterdam-museum-night\/\" target=\"_blank\">Rotterdam version<\/a> already on this blog but if Amsterdam museums are more your thing, then November 5<sup>th<\/sup> is your big chance to visit more than forty museums in the city.<\/li>\n<li>Chocolate Letters \u2013 How many have you consumed already?\u00a0 If you don\u2019t know all the details of chocolate letters than stay tuned because I\u2019ll be covering that this month.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.crossingborder.nl\/index.php?ID=1&amp;lang=uk\" target=\"_blank\">Crossing Border The Hague<\/a> (November 16<sup>th<\/sup> \u2013 19<sup>th<\/sup>) \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.holland.com\/global\/Tourism.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Holland.com<\/a> describes it as \u201cthe festival where literature, music, film and the visual arts are combined. For several days writers, poets, musicians, filmmakers and artists will reign over The Hague&#8217;s cultural center. Crossing Border The Hague is one of Europe\u2019s main international literature and music festivals.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>The Sinterklaas Build-up \u2013 Sinterklaas will be arriving in mid-November with his steam boat filled with gifts and helpers but what (near) disasters will happen during the journey?<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.idfa.nl\/nl.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam<\/a> (November 16<sup>th<\/sup> \u2013 November 27<sup>th<\/sup>) \u2013 One of the world\u2019s most prestigious documentary film festivals with over 300 documentaries shown over the festival\u2019s eleven days.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/File:Oliebollen.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">Oliebollen<\/a> \u2013 The stands have already started popping up around the city.\u00a0 Will your local stand score in the top 10 of the oliebollen test?<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gloweindhoven.nl\/\" target=\"_blank\">GLOW Eindhoven<\/a> (November 5<sup>th<\/sup> \u2013 November 12<sup>th<\/sup>) &#8211; GLOW is the International Forum of Light in Art and Architecture. Artists use artificial light to change or enhance parts of the city of Eindhoven.
