A <em>weeralarm\u00a0<\/em>(weather alert) in the stage\u00a0<em>code oranje\u00a0<\/em>(code orange) was announced in the provinces\u00a0<em>Noord-Holland, Zuid-Holland, Noord-Brabant\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>Utrecht<\/em>. This means that there is a chance of extraordinary weather coming with a greater chance of <em>schade en ongevallen\u00a0<\/em>(damage and accidents). This turned out to be more than true&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Some places experienced enormous amounts of\u00a0<em>regen\u00a0<\/em>(rain). For example, <i>Kaatsheuvel\u00a0<\/i>and\u00a0<em>Alphen aan de Rijn\u00a0<\/em>both got around 150 mm. That is more than a gallon of water per square feet fallen within a day! In <i>Alphen aan de Rijn<\/i>, a dyke was about to break and flood an entire\u00a0<em>woonwijk\u00a0<\/em>(neighborhood). Fortunately, the <i>bewoners\u00a0<\/i>(inhabitants) could help each other out and build up a wall of\u00a0<em>zandzakken\u00a0<\/em>(sandbags). (Image by Weerplaza.nl at Twitter.com)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>To show how extreme these amounts are: Normally, in the entire month of July around 50-80 mm of rain falls. So within a day, the amount of two entire months has come down!<\/p>\n<p>All this water left quite some damage. Many houses were flooded partly, which leaves\u00a0<em>waterschade\u00a0<\/em>(water damage) which is not easy to repair. Irreplaceable damage was also done in\u00a0for example\u00a0<em>Bussum,\u00a0<\/em>where the\u00a0<em>gemeentehuis\u00a0<\/em>(town hall) was flooded and the\u00a0<em>archief <\/em>(archive) and the\u00a0<em>kunstcollectie\u00a0<\/em>(art collection) were touched by the water.
