The change in weather has brought about the beautiful and cheerful spring to the Netherlands! Trees are blooming, terraces are filled, and the Dutch are out on their gardens. Now that we have a garden, we have also been spending lots of time fixing it up and getting it ready for cookouts by planting flowers and clearing out the weeds.

Just like the weather has brought about flowers and colors in everyone’s gardens, so has it brought an insane amount of advertisements and sales for all sorts of gardening-related articles. Stores such as Gamma, Praxis and Karwei are offering sales on garden furniture, fence material and outdoor tiles, while Intratuin and the local flower and plant stores are booming with sales for plants and flowers. It seems like the country is ready for warmer weather and enjoying the garden, and I don’t blame them! I could use less layers and more sunny warm days relaxing!

Because gardening seems to be pretty close to the Dutch, I decided to dedicate this post to all sorts of gardening-related vocabulary. This can come in handy when working on your garden or when trying to look for supplies at the do-it-yourself stores.

Tools:
schop- shovel
zaag- saw
scharen- shears
hark– rake
bijl- ax

Plants:
boom- tree (Let op!
