Whether it is about the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/dutch\/the-ui-conundrum\/\"><em>ui<\/em><\/a><em><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/dutch\/the-ui-conundrum\/\">-klank<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>(the &#8220;ui&#8221; sound), the<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/dutch\/the-super-scary-dutch-g\/\">\u00a0<em>G-klank<\/em><\/a><em>\u00a0<\/em>(the &#8220;G&#8221; sound) or other sounds you might have a hard time with. This series, called &#8220;Can You Say This Correctly?&#8221;, is about providing a speech example that I recorded. So: a\u00a0<em>muts\u00a0<\/em>is a normal-sized hat, and a\u00a0<em>mutsje\u00a0<\/em>is a little\u00a0hat, or a small hat. This\u00a0<em>-je\u00a0<\/em>ending is used very often in the Netherlands. You will see it everywhere. It fits with the Dutch\u00a0<em>gezelligheid<\/em>!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Listen closely to the pronunciation. Also heed forms like\u00a0<em>-pje<\/em> (e.g.\u00a0<em>boompje\u00a0<\/em>&#8211; little tree) or\u00a0<em>-tje\u00a0<\/em>(e.g.\u00a0<em>mannetje<\/em> &#8211; little man). But how to pronounce it? Generally, the pronunciation of the original language is also transferred. So\u00a0<em>smoothie\u00a0<\/em>is still pronounced\u00a0<em>smoothie<\/em>. The main reason I put the word here is the use of\u00a0<em>ij<\/em>. Click on the word to hear what it sounds like. When an\u00a0<em>i\u00a0<\/em> and a\u00a0<em>j\u00a0<\/em>are connected in Dutch, it is pronounced like\u00a0<em>ei<\/em>. When to use\u00a0<em>ei\u00a0<\/em>or\u00a0<em>ij\u00a0<\/em>is not really set in stone, and there are cases where the use of\u00a0<em>ei\u00a0<\/em>has another meaning than the same word with\u00a0<em>ij<\/em>. Since there is no specific time indication, this should just be in the\u00a0<em>tegenwoordige tijd\u00a0<\/em>(present time) of the verb\u00a0<em>organiseren<\/em>.
