There are plenty of things I like, but there are some things I find simply\u00a0<em>vervelend.<\/em> I decided to compose a list of 4 things I dislike\u00a0about the Netherlands. Which ones do you agree with? Which would you add?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Het weer<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I know this is perhaps the most clich\u00e9 of all complaints, but I just simply cannot get used to not seeing the sun for 7 days in a row. January was a particularly sunless month, and I&#8217;ve certainly suffered it. Two weeks ago, when the sun finally came out here in Limburg, I ran outside just to soak on it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/9mMpok\" aria-label=\"5486042771 1f94456494\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\"  alt=\"Amsterdam&#039;s not Baltimore\" width=\"500\" height=\"335\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/5015\/5486042771_1f94456494.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Nederlandse eten<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There are definitely food varieties in the Netherlands that I love like <em>stroopwafels<\/em>, <em>poffertjes<\/em> and <em>haring<\/em>, but I absolutely hate a lot more than I love. Dutch food, for me, is too greasy (do we need to fry everything), or I cannot see what it has (like the mushed up soups&#8230;I personally like to see the veggies I eat).\u00a0I think\u00a0<em>stampot<\/em> isn&#8217;t that bad, but I cannot understand why vegetables need to be\u00a0<em>stomped\u00a0<\/em>or mushed up to the point of no recognition.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/7yMCKP\" aria-label=\"4309172165 F354215cff\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\"  alt=\"Dutch Farmers Cabbage (Kale)\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/2717\/4309172165_f354215cff.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Doe normaal<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I can&#8217;t say I hate this phrase, but I find it so bizarre that I just cannot bring myself to say it. What does that even mean to do normal or act normal. What is normal? I tried it once with a student and it just felt awful coming out of my mouth. I don&#8217;t want people to act normal (whatever that means), I want people to be themselves! Maybe I would like a student to stop being silly, but is silly not part of being normal?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/bZNC4S\" aria-label=\"7217704432 E667bc2423 Z\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\"  alt=\"Niet Normal!\" width=\"427\" height=\"640\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/7218\/7217704432_e667bc2423_z.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Dagboeken<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I must say I am someone who likes to plan ahead and hates for people to cancel plans at the last minute. But&#8230;.planning dinners and activities one month in advance (even two!) is something I hate. How do I know if I will be in the mood for it in a month? Will we even be talking then? What if something more important comes up? We Mexicans tend to be very very spontaneous by making plans an hour or two before said event, so this idea of agendas and long-term planning is very too much for me.
