A great moment to start improving is the turn of a new year &#8211; and so many of us have new year&#8217;s resolutions, also the Dutch! We call them\u00a0<em>goede voornemens voor het nieuwe jaar\u00a0<\/em>(good resolutions for the new year). But what do the Dutch want to improve most? Here is an (unofficial) top 5 of what the Dutch would like to improve about themselves!<\/p>\n<h2><strong>5.\u00a0<em>Ontstressen<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter \" src=\"https:\/\/images.unsplash.com\/photo-1470329264494-2a6fa12e47a4?ixlib=rb-0.3.5&amp;q=80&amp;fm=jpg&amp;crop=entropy&amp;cs=tinysrgb&amp;s=8b4e4ac25818a5331aa3a0c9d1c6643e\" width=\"807\" height=\"538\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On spot 5, we have\u00a0<em>ontstressen\u00a0<\/em>(destressing, relaxation). In our\u00a0<em>samenleving\u00a0<\/em>(society) today, we are always\u00a0<em>onder druk\u00a0<\/em>(under pressure).\u00a0We always\u00a0<em>moeten, moeten, moeten\u00a0<\/em>(must, must, must). Few moments just give us peace and let us\u00a0<em>uitrusten\u00a0<\/em>(rest). So it is a good idea to take some time off for something like\u00a0<em>yoga\u00a0<\/em>(yoga),\u00a0<em>meditatie\u00a0<\/em>(meditation), or just some hobby that let&#8217;s you relax!<\/p>\n<h2><strong>4.\u00a0<em>Stoppen met roken<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter \" src=\"https:\/\/images.unsplash.com\/photo-1440504738219-a74a11143d50?ixlib=rb-0.3.5&amp;q=80&amp;fm=jpg&amp;crop=entropy&amp;cs=tinysrgb&amp;s=c2e168de7b259ebb23fd3ccc9ffd19b4\" width=\"804\" height=\"536\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On number 4 we have a classic:\u00a0<em>stoppen met roken\u00a0<\/em>(to stop smoking)! It is on the top of many lists of <em>goede voornemens<\/em>, and unsurprisingly so.\u00a0<em>Roken\u00a0<\/em>is\u00a0<em>slecht voor de gezondheid\u00a0<\/em>(bad for your health),\u00a0<em>duur\u00a0<\/em>(expensive), and\u00a0<em>moeilijk om af te komen\u00a0<\/em>(difficult to get rid of). Good idea!<\/p>\n<h2><strong>3.\u00a0<em>Afvallen<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter \" src=\"https:\/\/images.unsplash.com\/photo-1417976737285-aea15c203d4a?ixlib=rb-0.3.5&amp;q=80&amp;fm=jpg&amp;crop=entropy&amp;cs=tinysrgb&amp;s=435be6e6e30278b5504806c887d2fb65\" width=\"801\" height=\"534\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Starting the top 3, another classic:\u00a0<em>afvallen\u00a0<\/em>(to lose weight). It is also\u00a0<em>hoog op het lijstje\u00a0<\/em>(high on the list) for many as well. Shedding some pounds are much\u00a0<em>gewenst\u00a0<\/em>(desired), and a challenge &#8211;\u00a0it won&#8217;t change\u00a0<em>van de ene op de andere dag\u00a0<\/em>(from one day to another). It requires\u00a0you to\u00a0<em>hard werken\u00a0<\/em>(to work hard)!<\/p>\n<h2><strong>2.\u00a0<em>Sporten<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter \" src=\"https:\/\/images.unsplash.com\/photo-1476352184299-38fd95cc224d?ixlib=rb-0.3.5&amp;q=80&amp;fm=jpg&amp;crop=entropy&amp;cs=tinysrgb&amp;s=2a9c6132c30b4b044a2ed56fbfb0d80e\" width=\"958\" height=\"539\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To go\u00a0<em>sporten\u00a0<\/em>(to sport) is something we all know is\u00a0<em>gezond<\/em> (healthy), gives you a\u00a0<em>goed gevoel\u00a0<\/em>(good feeling), and might help to replace the bad <em>gewoonte\u00a0<\/em>(habit)\u00a0of\u00a0<em>roken<\/em>? Definitely not a bad idea, and coming\u00a0<em>op de tweede plaats\u00a0<\/em>(in second place) for the Dutch!<\/p>\n<h2><strong>1.\u00a0<em>Meer tijd voor familie en vrienden<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter \" src=\"https:\/\/images.unsplash.com\/photo-1475045386676-a66b44a0ff45?ixlib=rb-0.3.5&amp;q=80&amp;fm=jpg&amp;crop=entropy&amp;cs=tinysrgb&amp;s=e88c8e8b490df401324179892666f7b4\" width=\"402\" height=\"536\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Isn&#8217;t this what it is all about? We\u00a0<em>werken hard<\/em>, we\u00a0<em>sporten<\/em>, we\u00a0<em>vallen af<\/em>,\u00a0we\u00a0<em>stoppen met roken<\/em>, but what for? So we can have\u00a0<em>meer tijd voor familie en vrienden\u00a0<\/em>(more time for family and friends)!
