The Dutch words will be highlighted in black and in parentheses. The English meaning will follow afterwards.<\/p>\n<p>ie &#8211; kind of like the ee in seen. (<strong>lied<\/strong>) song, (<strong>vriend<\/strong>) friend<\/p>\n<p>eu &#8211; made by forming the mouth for the oo in book and then having the tongue lowered and pulled back. (<strong>neus<\/strong>) nose, (<strong>keuken<\/strong>) kitchen<\/p>\n<p>oe &#8211; like the o in English word do. (<strong>goed<\/strong>) good, (<strong>zoet<\/strong>) sweet<\/p>\n<p>ei\/ij &#8211; makes the same sound in English ay in say. (<strong>rijs<\/strong>) rice, (<strong>reist<\/strong>) travels<\/p>\n<p>au\/ou &#8211; like the ow in now. (<strong>gauw<\/strong>) quickly, (<strong>goud<\/strong>) gold<\/p>\n<p>ui &#8211; round your lips and make a sound between a Dutch ou and eu. (<strong>huis<\/strong>) house, (<strong>vuil<\/strong>) dirty<\/p>\n<p>aai &#8211; this is a combination of Dutch aa and ie. (<strong>draaien<\/strong>) to turn, (<strong>maaien<\/strong>) to mow<\/p>\n<p>oei &#8211; combination of oe and ie. (<strong>groeien<\/strong>) to grow, (<strong>vermoeid<\/strong>) tired<\/p>\n<p>ooi &#8211; combination of oo and ie. (<strong>gooien<\/strong>) to throw, (<strong>mooi<\/strong>) beautiful<\/p>\n<p>eeuw &#8211; combination of ee and oe. (<strong>leeuwen<\/strong>) lions, (<strong>geeuwen<\/strong>) to yawn<\/p>\n<p>iew &#8211; combination of ie and oe.
