The tv show was aired until 1996 in the Netherlands, and translations of the show were televised in France, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Norway, Sweden, the UK, Peru and Mexico.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>In 2005, the show received the award of <i>Best Kinderprogramma Aller Tijden <\/i>of the 20th century. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">While the show has seen many adaptations throughout the years including a comic strip, a film version and a musical, none have been as successful as the show as. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The name of the show, <i>De Fabeltjeskrant<\/i>, literally translates to the newspaper of little fables or stories. The narrator is an owl who reads to the children stories from his newspaper. The story is acted out by the rest of the characters who are all puppets. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The characters of the show were all referred to by their animal name. The following are some of the characters:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>Meneer de Uil <\/i> is the owl who narrated the show<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>Bor de Wolf <\/i> is a wolf and father of <i>Borita<\/i><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>Chico Lama <\/i>came to live in the <i>Grote Dierenbos <\/i>together with <i>Zaza Zebra <\/i>and <i>Mister Maraboe <\/i>(a large African stork). <\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>Meneer de Raaf <\/i>who was a raven<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>Lowieke de Vos<\/i> is a fox<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>Piet de Pad<\/i> who is a toad<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>Meindert het Paard<\/i> who is a horse<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>Ed en Willem Bever <\/i>were the beaver brothers<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>Stoffel de Schildpad<\/i> was the turtle<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The new show will not have puppets but rather will be a cartoon animation. Fifty episodes of 7 minutes each plus a 30 minute introduction for the new viewers.
