However, we have never really discussed\u00a0<em>treinstations\u00a0<\/em>(train stations) and what peculiar things you can find there. I definitely recommend checking out the other two posts first, as they give some important information I will not explain again here. So &#8211; what awaits you at a Dutch\u00a0<em>treinstation<\/em>?<\/p>\n<p>I was at\u00a0<em>Utrecht Centraal<\/em> (Utrecht Central Station) today, and it is a huge\u00a0<em>treinstation\u00a0<\/em>with more than 20\u00a0<em>sporen\u00a0<\/em>(platforms). The recently renovated hub connects most places in the country due to its central location. You can basically reach any place in the Netherlands within about two hours from\u00a0<em>Utrecht Centraal\u00a0<\/em>when traveling by\u00a0<em>Intercity<\/em>, the regular long-distance trains from the main Dutch train provider,\u00a0<em>Nederlandse Spoorwegen\u00a0<\/em>(NS).<\/p>\n<p>The station has many shops, from\u00a0<em>Albert Heijn\u00a0<\/em>in its\u00a0small\u00a0<em>To-Go\u00a0<\/em>formula, a small\u00a0<em>Hema<\/em>, bookstores, many different delis, coffee places, snackbars, and many more. They only show the connections that fit on the\u00a0<em>borden<\/em>, so especially at a busy station such as Utrecht Centraal, you may only see connections within the next 20 minutes. This is mostly buses and trams. Quite handy if your connection is still a long time away or if the digital\u00a0<em>reisinformatie\u00a0<\/em>(travel information) fails. But normally, it is easier to stick with the\u00a0<em>infoborden\u00a0<\/em>or the\u00a0<em>app\u00a0<\/em>(see below).<\/p>\n<p>They are not always yellow, by the way. They can also be blue\/white, if it is from another\u00a0<em>vervoerder\u00a0<\/em>than\u00a0<em>NS<\/em>. I will never forget this one time when I had to wait for more than an hour and a half because of a\u00a0<em>storing<\/em>! At least we could get as many cups of coffee as we wanted, so that softened the blow a bit.<\/p>\n<p><em>NS<\/em>\u00a0and other\u00a0<em>vervoerders\u00a0<\/em>(transport providers) will often warn you about such\u00a0<em>werkzaamheden<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>storingen<\/em>, and the easiest way to know whether your trajectory is up-to-date and running is by checking in the\u00a0<em>NS\u00a0<\/em>app (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ns.nl\/en\/travel-information\/ns-on-your-mobile\/travel-planner-xtra.html\">this one<\/a>) or on\u00a0<em>9292\u00a0<\/em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/9292.nl\/\">they also have an app<\/a>). To keep disruptions as little as a nuisance as possible,\u00a0<em>werkzaamheden\u00a0<\/em>are almost exclusively planned during weekends and at night.<\/p>\n<p>Do you still need more information? There are also small\u00a0<em>Informatie\u00a0<\/em>booths, where you will always find assistance in larger stations. In smaller stations, you may simply be out of luck.
