Yesterday, it was time to get your arts and crafts skills out to make <em>surprises.<\/em> Now we need the more intellectual, brainy side of you &#8211; we have to write a <em>gedicht <\/em>(poem). This is part 2 for the ultimate <em>surprise\u00a0<\/em>for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/dutch\/how-did-sinterklaas-arrive-in-the-netherlands-during-covid\/\"><em>pakjesavond <\/em>(&#8220;gift evening&#8221;) on December 5!<\/a> Let&#8217;s dive in!<\/p>\n<p>Each year again, Sinterklaas comes from Spain to make the Dutch, young and old, happy with\u00a0<em>snoepgoed\u00a0<\/em>(sweets) and\u00a0<em>cadeautjes\u00a0<\/em>(gifts). As is tradition, they <strong>need to rhyme<\/strong> and they <strong>need to be written as if Sinterklaas wrote it<\/strong>. Usually, the theme is to reflect on some things that happened to the recipient during the last year. After all,\u00a0Sinterklaas\u00a0gives\u00a0<em>cadeautjes\u00a0<\/em>only to those that have been <em>braaf<\/em> (good).<\/p>\n<p>Before opening the gift, the\u00a0<em>gedicht\u00a0<\/em>must be read out loud! This is why the <em>gedichten\u00a0<\/em>often have some jokes and you can really feel the time people invested.<\/p>\n<p>So let&#8217;s go back to Jeroen. You know he likes <em>voetbal<\/em>, so let&#8217;s relate it to that. And you have the worn down <em>voetbalschoenen<\/em>, you can use that as a joke. Let&#8217;s write a\u00a0<em>gedicht<\/em>!<\/p>\n<p><em>Beste Jeroen,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Toen ik een cadeau voor je zocht,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>wist ik het meteen:<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Je hebt niks met tennis of de <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/dutch\/maarten-van-der-weijden-swam-3-days-straight-for-cancer-research\/\"><strong>Elfstedentocht<\/strong><\/a>,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>liever heb je een voetbal aan je been.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Via Voetbalclub TV in Madrid<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>heb ik je vaak aangemoedigd.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Ook als het met die schoenen tegenzit,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>kon ik zeggen: &#8220;zo, die is goed!&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Piet wees naar de schoenen en zei met een schrik<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Straks loopt hij op z&#8217;n zool!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Dan staan z&#8217;n voeten in de fik!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Zo schiet hij nooit meer een goal!&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Dus zocht ik in ons cadeautjesmagazijn<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>en vond het perfecte geschenk.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Met deze aan de voet sta je nooit meer aan de lijn,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>en zal je altijd een winnaar zijn.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Groeten vanuit de Pakjesboot,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Sint<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>(Dear Jeroen,<\/p>\n<p>When I was looking for a gift for you,<\/p>\n<p>I immediately knew:<\/p>\n<p>You don&#8217;t care for tennis or the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/dutch\/the-dutch-alternative-for-the-elfstedentocht\/\">Elfstedentocht<\/a><strong>,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>you rather have a football at your foot.<\/p>\n<p>Through Football Club TV in Madrid<\/p>\n<p>I often cheered you on.<\/p>\n<p>Even if you&#8217;re held back by the shoes,<\/p>\n<p>I could say: &#8220;man, he&#8217;s good!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Pete pointed at the shoes and said in shock<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In no time he&#8217;ll be walking on his sole!<\/p>\n<p>Then his feet will be burning!<\/p>\n<p>Then he&#8217;ll never score a goal again!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>So I looked in our gift warehouse<\/p>\n<p>and found the perfect gift.<\/p>\n<p>With these on your feet, you&#8217;ll never be on the sidelines again,<\/p>\n<p>and you&#8217;ll always be a winner.<\/p>\n<p>Best regards from the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/dutch\/how-did-sinterklaas-arrive-in-the-netherlands-during-covid\/\"><em>Pakjesboot<\/em><\/a>,<\/p>\n<p>Sint.)<\/p>\n<p>You can of course go in any direction you want with this, as long as it&#8217;s somehow related to Sint and him making a judgment about what the person with the gift needs.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the\u00a0<em>gedicht<\/em>, the recipient of the gift often thanks Sinterklaas: <em>Bedankt, Sinterklaas!\u00a0<\/em>And they unwrap the gift. Of course, over time that&#8217;s more as a joke from childhood, and the person that gave the gift is thanked, too.<\/p>\n<p>And that&#8217;s it! Jeroen is really getting three gifts: a beautiful\u00a0<em>gedicht<\/em>, a wonderful\u00a0<em>surprise<\/em>, and awesome\u00a0<em>voetbalschoenen<\/em>!
