Anglosphere<\/em> is a word that refers to all the countries where English is the most common language spoken by the citizens of that country.\u00a0 The United States is part of the anglosphere, but so are: the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland.\u00a0 But these are not the only countries that are part of the anglosphere, there are many more countries around the world that have English as one of their official languages or as the de facto* official language.\u00a0 There is no “official language” for the United States, though of course, English is the de facto official language.\u00a0 Most countries in which English is the official or de facto language there is some colonial era connection to the United Kingdom, such as in The Bahamas, India, The Cook Islands.\u00a0 There are also some areas in which English is spoken in which there is some colonial era connection to the United States, such as in Guam, The Philippines, and Puerto Rico.\u00a0 All together there are an estimated 380-400 million native speakers of English worldwide.\u00a0 Not all of these people necessarily live in the anglosphere, but the great majority of them do.\u00a0 There are close to 2 billion second language English speakers worldwide – and that includes you!\u00a0 Both the anglosphere and the number of English language learners are still growing.\u00a0 English is now also one of the official languages of the United Nations, the European Union, and the International Olympic Committee.\u00a0 This prevalence of the English language around the world is just one reason that learning the English language has become so important in the last few years.\u00a0 I am sure none of this is news to you as you are among the many people out there trying to learn English either for business, travel, or pleasure.\u00a0 Transparent Language is committed to helping English language learners and offers many tools to help you.
