and often they are held only one day a week, so most people buy their food in stores not open air markets.)\u00a0 Before going to the store to buy groceries it is common to make a list of items to buy, in order to remember what items you needs.\u00a0 This list is called a &#8216;grocery list&#8217;.\u00a0 The foods on a grocery list can be divided into groups of similar items or categories.\u00a0 At the grocery store (also called a &#8216;market&#8217; or &#8216;supermarket&#8217;) there are signs that tell shoppers where to find the items they are looking for on their list.\u00a0 So, what are the names for the food categories most commonly used in grocery stores in the English speaking world?\u00a0 Below is a list of common sections of a grocery store and the types of foods and products found in those sections.\u00a0 Also, there is a picture of how a grocery store might look like if you are just looking at it by food category.\u00a0 Below this is a matching exercise.\u00a0 In this exercise you need to match the different foods to the categories they belong to.\u00a0 I have written the answers to this matching at the very bottom of this post.\u00a0 Good luck and I hope you enjoy learning some new vocabulary.<\/p>\n<p><strong>bakery<\/strong> &#8211; eggs, milk, cheese, yogurt<br \/>\n<strong>deli counter<\/strong> &#8211; sliced meats for sandwiches, sliced cheese, buns for sandwiches, prepared salads<br \/>\n<strong>baking goods<\/strong> &#8211; flour, sugar, salt, spices, dry cookie or baking mixes<br \/>\n<strong>meats\/meat counter<\/strong> &#8211; chicken, chicken breasts, beef, hamburger meat, pork chops<br \/>\n<strong>seafood<\/strong> &#8211;
