There are many things you can try to achieve this but one of the easiest tips is not to use the word \u201cand\u201d too much.<\/p>\n<p>When you use \u201cand\u201d a lot, your writing starts to become a bit boring.\u00a0 Instead try using some different words.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For example:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Danny ate pizza, but Sarah ate sushi.<\/p>\n<p>Danny ate pizza, when Sarah ate sushi.<\/p>\n<p>Danny ate pizza, so Sarah ate sushi.<\/p>\n<p>Although, just using other words instead of \u201cand\u201d is not the complete answer.\u00a0 You also have to make sure that the new word you are using makes sense.<\/p>\n<p>For example, if you had originally written <em>\u201cThe shops are still open and we can get Tim a present.\u201d<\/em> and then decided to use a different word to replace \u201cand,\u201d something like \u201cwhen\u201d wouldn\u2019t be a good fit.\u00a0 Because then your sentence wouldn\u2019t make much sense &#8211;&gt; <em>\u201cThe shops are still open when we can get Tim a present.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0 So, make sure that you test out your substitute words before slotting them in place.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Have a look at the three sentences below and see if you can decide which word makes the most sense in each sentence:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>1. \u00a0Sam is tall (so \/ but) Tanya is taller.<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0 Tina plays golf (while \/ so) Ben plays chess.<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0 Anna locked her door (but \/ so) she felt safe.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Now write out the following sentences again with a new linking word.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t win the game and I am going out to eat.<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0 I had pizza and I didn\u2019t have any beer.<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0 I like bananas and I am not a monkey.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<img width=\"300\" height=\"199\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2012\/01\/business_man.jpg\" class=\"attachment-post-thumbnail size-post-thumbnail wp-post-image tmp-hide-img\" alt=\"Business Man Writing\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" \/><p>Many people want to improve their English writing.
