{"id":426,"date":"2012-02-16T09:00:42","date_gmt":"2012-02-16T14:00:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/english\/?p=426"},"modified":"2014-08-01T16:11:06","modified_gmt":"2014-08-01T20:11:06","slug":"foodie-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/english\/foodie-time\/","title":{"rendered":"Foodie Time"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p>I have a confession* to make: I am a \u201cfoodie.\u201d\u00a0 This is one reason you will see me post information about food, generally \u201cAmerican\u201d food, and recipes periodically on this blog.\u00a0 I love food and all things food related!\u00a0 In fact that is the definition of a foodie.\u00a0 A foodie is a person who wants to learn everything there is to know about food.\u00a0 They are people interested in the science, industry, and people surrounding food and of course they are interested in food itself.\u00a0 This is similar to, but a little different from, a \u201cgourmet.\u201d\u00a0 The term gourmet in English usually applies to people who are seeking to refine their taste and who are interested in the very best food.\u00a0 Also, gourmets are often professionals seeking out the best foods.\u00a0 Foodies are amateurs**, like me, and maybe you, who just love food and all things food related.<\/p>\n<p>If you are visiting the United States and want to plan your trip around food (and why not do this?), this list of the top 5 \u201cFoodies Cities\u201d (according to the media group the <em>Huffington Post<\/em>) in the United States may be helpful.<\/p>\n<p><strong>#1<\/strong> <strong>New Orleans, LA<\/strong> \u2013 This city is filled with delicious ethnic Creole food.\u00a0 The city is known for a dish called \u201cgumbo.\u201d\u00a0 Gumbo is a stew made out of meat, seafood, and vegetable and is often eaten with rice.<br \/>\n<strong>#2 San Francisco, CA<\/strong> \u2013 This city has both trendy and unique restaurants.\u00a0 There are many different types of food from around the world in San Francisco, but Asian food is one of the most prevalent types of foreign foods.<br \/>\n<strong>#3 Providence, RI<\/strong> &#8211; This city has incredible seafood and grilled pizza.\u00a0 This is the smallest city on the list, but it is a city full of many small cozy restaurants.<br \/>\n<strong>#4 New York City, NY<\/strong> \u2013 This city is famous for culinary diversity, street vendors, and luxury restaurants.\u00a0 You can spend anywhere from a few dollar on a big slice of New York style pizza or hundreds of dollars on a gourmet meal in New York City.<br \/>\n<strong>#5 Chicago, IL<\/strong> \u2013 This city is best known for its amazing pizza, but it has many other amazing culinary*** offerings.\u00a0 Pizza in Chicago is different than in other parts of the United States.\u00a0 The pizza in Chicago is called \u201cdeep dish pizza\u201d and it has a thick crust.<\/p>\n<p>Also, here are some English-language foodie blogs.\u00a0 Most of these blogs have great pictures of food as well as recipes in English.\u00a0 They will make your mouth water****.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tastespotting.com\/\">http:\/\/www.tastespotting.com\/<\/a> &#8211; This blog has AMAZING pictures of food.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.coconutandlime.com\/\">http:\/\/www.coconutandlime.com\/<\/a> &#8211; This blog has new and unique recipes that are posted all the time.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/chocolateandzucchini.com\/\">http:\/\/chocolateandzucchini.com\/<\/a> &#8211; This is another great blog for recipes.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cancookmustcook.com\/\">http:\/\/www.cancookmustcook.com\/<\/a> &#8211; This blog offers a mix of recipes and talk\/discussion about food.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tastingmenu.com\/\">http:\/\/www.tastingmenu.com\/<\/a> &#8211; There is a lot of talk about great restaurants and food on this blog.<\/p>\n<p>* confession = a formal statement admitting something you have been hiding<br \/>\n** amateur = a person who engages in an activity as a pastime not as a professional<br \/>\n*** culinary = relating to the kitchen, cooking, or food<br \/>\n**** &#8220;to make your mouth water&#8221;
