{"id":464,"date":"2012-02-24T09:00:40","date_gmt":"2012-02-24T14:00:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/english\/?p=464"},"modified":"2014-08-01T16:18:12","modified_gmt":"2014-08-01T20:18:12","slug":"body-parts-and-their-verbs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/english\/body-parts-and-their-verbs\/","title":{"rendered":"Body Parts and Their Verbs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Today I am going to present a quick review of the vocabulary related to different parts of the body as well as present some of the verbs you might use to describe the actions of these body parts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Head<\/strong>: to shake; to nod<br \/>\n(<em>Shake<\/em> your head from side to side.)<br \/>\n(I need you all to <em>nod<\/em> your heads if you understand.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ear<\/strong>: to listen; to hear<br \/>\n(<em>Listen<\/em> up!)<br \/>\n(I hope you can <em>hear<\/em> what I am saying.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eye<\/strong>: to see; to watch; to observe<br \/>\n(Do you<em> see<\/em> the bird?),<br \/>\n(Let\u2019s <em>watch<\/em> TV.)<br \/>\n(He <em>observes<\/em> the animals before taking pictures.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mouth<\/strong>: to chew; to talk; to kiss<br \/>\n(<em>Chew<\/em> your food well before you swallow.),<br \/>\n(I<em> talk<\/em> to my friend every day.)<br \/>\n(<em>Kiss<\/em> me!)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Neck<\/strong>: to bend<br \/>\n(Can you <em>bend<\/em> your neck so your head touches your shoulder?)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shoulder<\/strong>: to shrug<br \/>\n(When the children don\u2019t understand they <em>shrug<\/em> their shoulders.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chest<\/strong>: to cough<br \/>\n(He was <em>coughing<\/em> so hard his chest hurt.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stomach<\/strong>: to digest; to growl<br \/>\n(I can\u2019t eat dinner I\u2019m still <em>digesting<\/em> lunch.)<br \/>\n(My stomach is <em>growling<\/em> I\u2019m so hungry.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Arms<\/strong>: to bend; to lift<br \/>\n(Can you <em>bend<\/em> your arm behind your back?)<br \/>\n(How much weight can you <em>lift<\/em>?)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Elbow<\/strong>: to bend<br \/>\n(<em>Bend<\/em> your elbow and place your hand over your heart to say the pledge of allegiance to the flag.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wrist<\/strong>: to bend; to flex<br \/>\n(<em>Bend<\/em> and <em>flex<\/em> your wrists to relax them after that last Yoga position.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hand<\/strong>: to wave; to shake<br \/>\n(<em>Wave<\/em> good-bye to your grandmother.)<br \/>\n(People in the United States <em>shake<\/em> hands when they first meet.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Finger<\/strong>: to point<br \/>\n(Can you <em>point<\/em> to which piece of jewelry you would like me to take out of the case?)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Leg<\/strong>: to walk; to run<br \/>\n(I go for a <em>walk<\/em> every day.)<br \/>\n(I like to <em>run<\/em> in marathons.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Knee<\/strong>: to bend; to kneel<br \/>\n(I have to <em>bend<\/em> my knees up to my chest to fit into this small seat.)<br \/>\n(People often <em>kneel<\/em> down to pray.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Foot<\/strong>: to step<br \/>\n(<em>Step <\/em>over the sleeping dog.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Toes<\/strong>: to curl; to tip-toe<br \/>\n(It is so cute when the baby <em>curls<\/em> his toes after you tickle his foot.)<br \/>\n(We have to be quiet, so please <em>tip-toe<\/em> into the room.)<\/p>\n<p>There are of course many more verbs associated with these different body parts, but the ones I have highlighted here are some of the more common ones.\u00a0 Can you think of any more verbs associated with these body parts?\u00a0 If so, please leave your ideas in the comments section of this post.<\/p>\n<p>* diagram = a simplified drawing<br \/>\n** finer = smaller<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<img width=\"220\" height=\"350\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2012\/01\/labeled-human-body1-220x350.jpg\" class=\"attachment-post-thumbnail size-post-thumbnail wp-post-image tmp-hide-img\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2012\/01\/labeled-human-body1-220x350.jpg 220w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2012\/01\/labeled-human-body1.jpg 406w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 220px) 100vw, 220px\" \/><p>Today I am going to present a quick review of the vocabulary related to different parts of the body as well as present some of the verbs you might use to describe the actions of these body parts.
