It’s got the head of a lion and the body of a mermaid. Snap that perfect selfie and then stick around to enjoy the views of the stunning Marina Bay. Cross the Helix Bridge and head into the massive Marina Bay Sands resort. The food court here is the perfect place to sample the mouth-watering cuisine of Singapore.

Next up, visit the Gardens by the Bay, where you’ll see why Singapore is known as the City in a Garden. Here you can visit two amazing conservatories. First up is the Cloud Forest, which replicates a cool, moist mountain climate. Next door is the Flower Dome, where you can experience a mild, dry climate. You might as well check out both, as a combo ticket saves you a bit of money.

A central feature of the gardens, the Supertrees look like something out of a dream. They’re actually vertical gardens which mimic real trees – they harness solar energy, collect rainwater, and much more. There’s an elevated walkway here you can stroll along to get a glimpse of Singapore from above.

In the evening, head to the city’s bustling Chinatown. Here you’ll find a night market, which is a great place to do a bit of shopping or just admire the architecture. There’s always something interesting going on in Chinatown. The main reason you come here, though, is to eat. On the aptly named Food Street, you’ll find plenty of options. Pick a stall, place your order, and take your spot amongst the crowd of hungry visitors.

If eating in the street isn’t your thing, you can head to the nearby People’s Park. There are so many options for Chinese food here, it’ll make your head spin. Watch the masters at work as they craft traditional dishes. Be sure to bring some friends so you can order a table full of dishes and eat family style.

With the sun down, it’s time to head back to the gardens to see the Supertrees illuminated in a sea of colors. This light and music show is definitely a highlight of any trip to Singapore, and it’s the perfect way to end your first day. Be sure to get some rest, because there’s another big day ahead.

Have you ever been to Singapore? What did you do there?
